Default Electric Parking Brake

I have 2003 S type with MANUAL Transmission. 2 years ago , all was well. Then the brake actuator (motor) started groaning. It would apply about half the time the other half I would get some lights and it would not apply. 6 months later. Ca barely hear cable trying to move. Will not apply ever. I would assume since it is trying, the module is working and the actuator is dead. My questions:
1. Does my assumnption make sense?
2. JTIS says complete rear suspension needs dropped. Is this true?
Where would be a good used source for this part.?
Saw one on EBay. It looks like it has been setting for years and 200 american sounds high.

Any help will be appreciated

Hi,
Have you tried re-calibrating the EPB, a procedure you can do your self in minuets to ensure the unit is set up correctly. Doing this will not cure a faulty motor etc., but could make sure the set-up is OK.
Details of how to do this are availble on the UK forum and can let you know the details if you need them. I think this Forum also has the details of the procedure stored somewhere also.

Update:- If you type into the Search Box, EPB Calibration, it brings up the information you require. Click Second Item down and then on the second post down you will find the details by Norri, the Administrator.
Regards
Inver.

PS Pleased to note you have a manual gearbox as well, not many of us about. A real driver always has a manual GBox. I'll go and take cover now!!!!!

I'd remove the rear wheels to make sure that the caliper mechanism and cable is not seized rather than assuming that it's the actuator.

If it's been a problem for two years anythings possible.
No use buying parts until you know what's wrong.

Default brake

Amazingly it started working intermittently again yesterday. It still groans. 1/2 the time it holds the other half it releases and the brake light blinks. I will try resetting procedure. I assume you mean the procedure started by unhooking battery.

By the way, I have gone through 67 r-type 67 tr4a,4 MGB's honda s-2000
and now this. A manual is so much more enjoyable

Hi Mike,
Yes that's the procedure I'm referring to.
Mine started doing this about December time last year. The car went in for its annual service etc., in January this year and I was advised that the rear discs and Pads required changing. After this work was done it cured the problem. However it is worth trying the calibration first though and see if this improves things. Make sure you have your Radio Code to hand as you will need this to reset the Radio after Battery disconnection.
Regards,
Inver.

A US car shouldn't need a radio code.

You should think about getting underneath and checking the cables.

As you probably know the S type is pretty sensitive to battery voltage. I did not see where you posted the age of your battery?

It is amazing what problems an old battery can cause!! I can't even begin to list all the problems that have been posted that were fixed with a new battery.
