ELM327 BT - Questions, advice....er....Help!?
Just rec'd my elm327 bluetooth and downloaded the free version of Torque for Android....now coming before the masters for instruction and learning....
Firstly, I am not opposed to obtaining the full version of the app, but want to first confirm it is capable for my needs. THus far, I find little documentation as to the advantages of the paid v. the free save 0-60 mph timers and horsepower functions etc. which are "nice" but harldy needed in my life. All of which brings me to my question(s):
Last night (well...it strayed into this morning, if I'd be honest) I ran some data on both the 05 S-T 3.0L and the 95 XJ6 4.0L. In both cases, the only data that accrued under the 8 columns for Fuel trims (labeled "Fuel trim bank 1 sensor 1(%)" thru sensor 4 and "Fuel trim bank 2 sensor 1(%)" thru sensor 4) was found in bank 1 sensor 2 and bank 2 sensor 2. So....I clearly don't have Short term and long term on both banks....is this a limitation of the free app? or possible tool malfunction?
In fairness, the XJ did report numbers on bank 1 sens 1 and bank 2 sens 2 but steady 99.875's or something like that..they certainly didn't look like fuel trims. (25% max?)
S-type reports a manifold pressure but no data here from XJ
S-T has blank ambient air, whilst XJ has seriously hosed up numbers in that field. (+400 to -32 F)
FWIW, it did read the P0174 code currently sported by the S-Type, and found no codes on the XJ in accordance with my expectations. I guess I'm looking for confirmation that the paid-app will make it all seem right? and perhaps the secret handshake that gets me from the named-fuel-trim sensors to LT/ST data.
Thanks in advance for entertaining an issue not specifically grounded in S-types but this section of the forum seems awfully active with the scanners...

THanks, John. Obviously I left a bunch of stuff out...there is IAT and that looks reasonable, but also an ambient that didn't work so well...I'll put up a chunk of data later....for now...I gotta find somebody to force me down to the post office at gunpoint to mail the check to the "gummint".....Lord knows its hard to go willingly....given what they've already taken.... oh..btw..."paid" app is only $4.82 but still....you are exactly right..no point in that if it'll never get me there..perfectly acceptable for the developer to say, "Nah...can't have these data til you pay..." but normally I'd think it would say something like that rather than leave blank...

I'm persuaded the hardware is sufficient. Jury still out on the software (Torque App for Android) but I'm still playing around with the settings. As to laptop, yeah...got one..but the particular scanner I bought is BT, with no usb...laptop is not - which could be changed easily enough - and the device came with a mini-disc that has several softwares loaded. Just prefer to make it work thru my phone, if possible. You can then email .csv files to yourself for later analysis.
