Default engine oil burning !!

hello

i've recently found out my car (01 S type fitted with 3L V6 engine) burns much oil. The consumption is half a liter per 1000Km (roughly equal to 1 us quart per 600 miles)
i m really annoyed about having to add some oil each time i travel...

i ve changed IMT seals but it didn't improve the situation. I also had a look under the car in order to find a leak, but the engine bay is totally dry !
i haven't noticed any blue smoke behind the car when i drive.

So my engine must burn that oil...is there any solution excluding an engine repair... ?

Did anyone perform a compression or leak test after engine cold-soak?

you might try a ring setting additive and then a thicker oil. Often times an engine burning oil does not produce blue smoke, but it will show up in an emissions analyzer, have it sniffed. if there is no smoke,This can mean that the oil is working its way from the bottom up(thru the oil ring) instead of the top down(valve seals). There is probably no great fix and it will continue till the engine is rebuilt. The up side is, often times they can go on like that for years till your ready to refreash

Keep an eye out for VVT faults with a thicker oil.

Search for people who've had VVT faults, probably via VVT codes P138x such as P1383 (see JTIS / codes PDF).

Climate is almost irrelevant - what matters is what the engine & oil run at which are the same (nearly) everywhere, and a lot hotter than anyone's climate unless you live on planet Venus.

The correct oil for the 3.0 litre V6 is 5W-30 meeting Ford M2C913-B/C specification.

I had a 2000 4.0 XJ that used oil like that, no smoke unless I planted the throttle and then it manifested itself! People had to turn on headlamps the smoke was so thick under hard acceleration. Ran perfectly, just used oil. Probably the oil control rings rings are worn on yours. Do not waste money on additives, miracle cures etc...if it is worn out it has to be rebuilt to correct the oil consumption issue. If you can live with putting oil in when needed that is your cheapest solution. Particularly if it still runs good.

Maintaining the correct oil level if the engine is still performing correctly and able to pass any emissions tests is a solution.

Bear in mind the additional combustion particles entering the catalytic converters may eventually overwhelm the converters causing one or both to fail.
