Default Engine Swapping

The S-Type I bought has worn piston rings which pretty much means new engine or rebuild which most shops wont at least $2500. I figured I could probably save a few dollars by down-sizing the engine. Since it is a V8 can I swap it out to a V6 or possible the Lincoln LS motor and still keep the tranny and other related parts of the car? Is it fairly easy to do?

The AJ28 is different from the Lincoln 3.9 litre variant built in Ohio. Manifolds and other parts are not interchangeable.

The wiring looms and other parts are very different from the 3.0 litre V6. If I remember correctly, the 5R55N gearbox bolt pattern is the same for either the AJ28 or 3.0 litre V6.

It may be far easier to source a used AJ28 with fewer miles.

The modules and wiring will need to change if you go V6. Endless pain that way.
