Well if you do need one: www.jaguarparts.com is way cheaper.
HOWEVER: I just had the same thing on my 2004 XJ8. The computer put out the infamous P0121 code which sends people out to throttle body land. I fixed mine by disconnecting the four wire plug at the throttle body. You push the latch inward. I then sprayed WD-40 into the plug and onto the the prongs on the sensor. I then connected and disconnected the plug several times to clean the connection. My check engine light went off and the code cleared out of the computer.
The Jag repair procedures for any of the trouble codes involving the throttle body call for the wiring to be checked first, change throttle body last. Jag even had a bulletin out about water getting into the plug. My problem showed up the day after the car wash did an underbody wash.
The throttle body is the first metal part mounted on the engine after the air cleaner. You'll see two plugs. The two wire plug is for the throttle motor and the four wire plug is the throttle position sensor which is the big buck maker for Jag dealers. There are a lot of posts about this problem here.

There are rebuilder/exchanges online. Try different searches.
Everthing that you saw, I saw. The same warnings, the same idle to the side of the road. The check engine light didn't come on at first. It took several restarts and drives for that to happen.
Do yourself a big favor. Check the wiring and do what I did. In other posts people complain that the throttle body was changed and they still have the problem. Jag has put out replacement gold connector pins for this and the bulletin I wrote about was for S types getting rain water into the plug.
Ask the mechanic who wants to change the throttle body: what were the voltage readings while back probing the plug while the engine is running. What connections where tested. All of this is first on the list of repair procedures.

This all may be a mechanic wanting to get it in and out quick and get paid.
As a shop mechanic for a paving company; one of the CAT front end loaders came in with not being able to raise the lift arms. The computer gave me the trouble codes and I did the tests and replaced a control down in the front.
Another CAT came in with the same problem. I looked at the codes and just changed the part. Same problem, still. So, I checked the wiring like I was supposed to do in the first place and found the problem. When the CAT was built, the wiring loom that crosses right behind the articulation joint was too close to the joint and had rubbed through. I had to cut the loom open and fix the wiring and then the problem was fixed.
