Default A Few Questions About Transmission Issues....

I recently purchased a 2003 S type V8 and have the surging rpm issue and the "lurch". Both problems developed over the course of the past three days as the weather has gotten colder. It seems to improve as the engine gets warmer.

As I have read I need to change the fluid and have both the PCM and TCM reflashed. A fluid change will not fix this alone. Sound Ok so far?

I have 65,000 miles on her.

Is changing the pan necessary?

I have had several opinions from friends and two techs. as to which fluid to use. Is there another brand that will work in my car besides Jags. liquid gold? What do you guys suggest? I would prefer to pick it up locally. In the past I have used Mobil 1 synthetic and Valvoline Max Life on my other cars with good results.

Also, how much can I expect (aprroxamitely) to pay from the dealer to have the PCM and the TCM reflashed?

Finally, is there a DIY for changing the transmission fluid with pics?

Thanks for any advice.

I think I found one of my answers on CTS's site and I also found this PDF of approved oils.

I would still like to hear from you guys on this.

Thanks

lots of threads on the subject of transmission fluid, you'll find just as many opiniont as well. I chose to use Lifeguard6, along with the pan in a kit from theCTSC, price is about $275 IIRC, some reason they aren't showing the price anymore on the website.

I've seen someone use Mobil 1, another used Ford Mercon SP, do your research and find the one that you are most comfortable with.

The pan change is necessary as the filter is integral with the pan.

You should also consider changing the electrical sleeve at the same time.
