All,

Just an amusing note, since it was very recently posted, I found
(ZF's channel ZFServicesNA at
/ZFServicesNA) that details very well visually the procedure, as spoken from on high.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for posting this video. Two comments:

1. Before you remove the drain plug, loosen the fill plug FIRST. You do not want to put yourself in the dreaded position of draining your ATF and then discovering that you are unable to remove your fill plug....

2. Bear in mind that removing the fill plug on the BMW in this video is so much easier due to plenty of working room in the tranmission tunnel of this particular car. I wish we had this much working room in our S-Types, but we do not even come close. It is a very tight fit and that is why most of us experience quite a bit of difficulty when we must loosen the fill plug for the first time....

Jon,

Agreed on both counts, and while I was not the author of this particular videographic masterpiece, I've posted several times regarding my round-and-round with ZF's slushbox that my S-type is blessed with. Back around 75k miles when I did the drain and fill, I was happy to have wonderfully informative responses to my queries about the procedure - even if it was incredibly intimidating at first, as well as a complete mess

There are a lot of videos on YouTube from people who are faced with the same issue, with BMW's and Land Rovers alike, and a few Jaguar owners as well, but for someone who is approaching the procedure for the first time I think this video is a good overview of the procedure itself, even if not clear about some of the quirks us Jag owners have to deal with.

When I did my drain and fill, I chose to follow joycejag's recommendation to change bolts to T40, and sourced the fluid, pan/filter, mech sleeve, and new fill plug from the awesome guys over at The CTSC (shameless plug, sorry! ) - The CTSC - ZF Parts for about $300 or so for everything I needed.

Hope that information helps someone else!

Seems pretty straight forward...but as others say wish we had more room to work with, I haven't been down there but will be pretty soon ! Waiting for it to warm up a bit

So the BMW ZF fluid is the same as jaguar/land rover ZF fluid???? Good to know if in deed it is as I have access to BMW trans fluid!
