Gearbox Fault - S Type 2.7ttd 2007
Hi Guys
A newbie with a fault, would like some advice.
Just filled up with diesel, stared to pull away ok put the car into sport and foot on the gas and clunk, like hitting a pot hole, no acceleration, just a clunking from the gearbox and gearbox fault on the dash.
Until this point no issues with gears, no noises, every now and then a jerk in 1st when rolling to a roundabout and then accelerating.
Any ideas on how serious the issue may or may not be. Occured Saturday pm so no dealer advice available recovered back to home address.
Much appreciated.

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear of your plight, not fun.
Do you have an OBD2 code reader? This should reveal additional details. Have you tried the car again to see what happens? Sometimes a failing battery will send the electronics into all sort of sometimes temporary fits.

Tried the car again. When ignition is on no fault, soon as engine turns over gearbox fault. Engine running fine. Looked up OBD2 and no don't have access to one.
Auto shift moves to D R N P ok but no gear engages, just hear clunking.

Chances are battery is failing / has failed. Cheapest next step is a new one, I suspect. The computers simply don't work right on a poor battery.
use google for
OBD2
but probably not the problem unless new batt doesn't fix

Got to the bottom of the problem, thanks to the lads @ JagTech Nottingham. Thankfully not a gearbox but the driveshaft.
They had not seen the problem before one of the joints had sheared off - probably metal fatigue.

Wow! That's a new one. Are you sure there is not an STR under the hood? I can't believe a 6 cylinder would shear the drive shaft bolts.
But thanks for documenting that. I wonder if the bolts just fell out instead?
