Default GPS Lost her voice

2003 STR, 30K. GPS (sat nav.) was fine until a long trip today. Display and function are fine but the navigator 'lost her voice' mid trip. If the radio is on, it will pause as though it is saying something for the next direction but won't. If I go into set-up, the volume for the voice is frosted out (can't be changed).

I did update the CD around 8 months ago and the voice was fine. I did go into the diagnostics (hold down phone/navigation for 3 secs > code 1971 > misc > voice does now appear de-selected (no back dot next to it)). I re-select, cancel out, and re-cycle starter and the voice does not come back. If I do another diagnostic, it's deselected beside voice again.

Could easily blame my wife who was driving and pushing a lot of buttons in a random order to "make things work", but the reality is more likely there's an electrical gremlin. Sigh...

Would appreciate any help. I did a search here but am still stuck.

If you do find out what caused the GPS to lose her voice please let me know.

My wife is always telling me where to go and I would love to be able to turn her off!

Hope you find out what the problem is.

Yeah, I saw this and all of the other posts - not much help. Thanks anyway!

Can anyone else please help me with this issue?

Sounds a bit obvious, similar thing happened to me, but is it possible that you have turned the volume down while the nav voice was on?

To test set a destination then when it mutes turn the the volume control knob clockwise.

Really embarrassing...you were right; it was the (knob) volume switch. I have an excuse - my wife played with things in the car in a way I never do. I knew you could change the voice from the master menu but I was not aware that the knob does this too.

Easy fix - a first for me; my jags ALWAYS in the past had exceptions (expensive ones, too) rather than commonalities when it comes to problems. Thanks for the help!

Caldoofy was correct with my lost voice issue. I must had inadvertently hit the volume while she was speaking. I never realized the controls could be independently adjusted.

Thanks Very much!

Thanks so much for this fix! My wife was also driving the car when Ms. GPS lost her voice. I've been giving her a hard time and finally called the dealer to find out what it might cost to fix. I explained in detail to the service coordinator what the issue was and he said he'd never heard of it, but for $149 diagnostic fee they'd find out what it would cost to fix it. Then I logged into Jaguar Forums and found the answer. Just amazing all around - Thanks again!

The GPS in my 2006 S-Type has also lost her voice. I'll the try the knob adjustment on the way to work on Friday morning. Hope it works for me as well. Then if I can get my AC to blow cold again, things will be just fine.
