Default This headlight socket seems backwards to me?

Upgrading my 20 year-old lights to super-white halogens. Passenger low-beam and high-beams went in with no issues. Then I got to the driver's side. So far I cannot undo the clip because, to me, the socket with recessed slots seems 180 degrees off in relation to the clip. In other words, there's no space under the clip to push down and unclip it. The passenger side has the space under the clip so it was easy. Is what I'm see normal for this side of the car? Thank you!

Driver's side headlight socket assembly with lamp installed, and locking clip.

There is quite a bit of give in the wire so you should be able to just force it clear, maybe one side at a time.

It looks like the wire clip is backwards, relative to the sheet metal bulb holder. Perhaps the wire clip came loose during a previous bulb change, and it was reinstalled incorrectly. It looks like the sheet metal piece has provisions for the clip to hinge from either direction. The guy may have been able to force the clip to hold the bulb in place, but you'd have to apply a lot of extra force to unclip it.

Yes, you're right! I had to apply a lot of force and eventually broke something. But it finally came out. Looking back, I should have just seen the problem and removed the headlight assembly. Now I have a headlight that wobbles - probably something with the adjusters. I tried to minimize it by inserting the screw fix on the top, but now I wonder if there's some way to insert a screw on the bottom to help stabilize it a bit more. Thanks.

Glad you got the headlight clip sorted out.

One friendly word of forum etiquette, though. There's no need to mention that I'm right. That's just a given around here. It would tie up a lot of bandwidth if everybody typed that.

Moto Marco
To stop the headlight wobbling >>>Just get a rubber band, lasso it round the high beam bulb holder and pull up to tension it and anchor it to the nearest bolt head on the crossmember above the radiator.

Would you happen to have the Jaguar part # for the official factory rubber band?

believe me it works both my headlights have the bruttal fix to shove the reflectors back. But the adjusters had also failed so there was no stop to go up to, these bands keep the reflector pushed up to brutalls screw! Been on two years no shaking about when driving over rough roads. lol I know it seems pathetic but it works.
