Exclamation Heavy rain and Engine System Failure?

I was driving from the east coast of FL to the West coast today and right about the middle of the state there came a heavy rain, so much so that it was hard to see. My STR was driving just fine until I had an Engine Systems Fault, DSC fault and parking break fault come one. So I had to pull over since I could only do 10. I shut the car off and waited a few min, then started it back up. Well I got about another 5 miles and same thing happened, this time I had to wait about 30 min before the engine system fault would go away.. I finally was able to get it going and made it home after about 30 min driving time.. I remember reading somewhere on the forum about this and thats why I waited to start the car again. This place has been very informational.

I had the codes ran:

P0121 pedal positioning sensor
P1111 fuel air metering
p1000 Air metering

This is what the guy wrote down for me at Autozone..

So this be something to be worried about? He reset everything and all is working fine now, Im just kinda scared to drive it now. All this happened and my phone was dead with no charger.

The car is a 2004 s type R with 61800 miles.

Thanks for any advice..

Hi Welcome, unfortunately it will happen again. Here you go:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=13153

It is moisture getting into your throttle body, 100% sure. Bring it immediately to you Jag dealer, or independent, tell them that you are 100% sure it is water getting into your throttle body.

They may be able to clean any and all corrision and re-seal it with silicone, if they do need to replace the whole thing it will cost around $1000 I believe. A number of us had same codes, same fault messages and our vehicles going into "limp Home Mode".

Hope this helps and good luck getting it fixed, but that is DEFINATELY the culprit. Until you get it fixed, avoid rain, car washees etc.

Thanks Bull.. Yes, it was actually your post that I had read a while back and from what I remembered, thats what kept me from not freaking out to much although I was in the middle of BFE with a dead phone...But, yes I went through some nasty puddles and rain so I guess Ill be taking it to the dealership when I have a moment, but for right now it can sit in the garage lol..

You can't have both P1111 and P1000 at the same time. Something went wrong with the read-out or the writing down of the codes. Do a search to see what they mean - they are nothing to do with air.

The only true code there is P0121. If you can dry out and seal the throttle body you may be OK. Do some searches for what others found and did, as you have a range of options from fairly cheap to horribly expensive.
