Default Help!!, Its like a xmas present

Having one of those weeks where no matter what I touch on my cars it turns to POO!!!

My darling 99 S Type Jaguar 4.0 litre v8 has decided to have a tizz

Everytime I drive the car over 100kmp/h (60 miles) the traction control light flashes on the dash and the car will not accelerate, there is no feel in the accelerator at all, the speed decreases and the car decides to go again when the speed hits about 35 miles an hr. Living in country Western Australia you can imagine this is a real issue.

i've tried disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting to try to reset the ESU...

Its getting very annoying

GIVE ME AN ANSWER SO I CAN JAVE A GOOD CHRISTMAS!!!:icon_bigg rin:

It may not be the TC light but rather the MIL, in which case it's due to catalyst-damaging misfires. Almost for sure one or more bad coils. Fix urgently. See other threads on this. Avoid causing it until fixed but it will also be doing it less badly all the time.

Thanks

the motor itself is running fine and has omly done 60000 miles, theres no missfire anywhere, its just like someone "turns it off" i have undone the battery again and left it for 40 minutes then taken it for a drive. This time the TC light flashes as before but there is no loss of power, if I get off the gas at 140 kmp/h and get back on it it runs off the clock (insert yay here) but the bloody light is stilll flashing (insert Boo!! here)

There a "gremlin" living in my Jaguar

Still sounds like classic misfire. Don't rule it out so lightly as if it is that then your cats may soon be toast.

I'm hearing ya Jag v8, we have plugged the diagnostic thingy in and all the figures look fine, I may have another go today to re diagnose.

In your opinion what should I be doing next????
Im terrific with cars ( I have six) but all my stuff has carbies, wind up windows and no heaters

new cars (or in this case newer) scare the **** out of me when it comes to fixing them but I love my jag, they are quite a sort after thing over here and mine seems to be a "one off" build

Cause the problem, is it FOR SURE the TC light that flashes? Because if it's the MIL then you 100% have misfires that are so bad they're damaging the cats (it's what the flashes mean). Start changing coils, but check for contamination in the plug wells and fix.

If it's the TC, I have no idea how it can flash at speed like that unless there's a weird TC fault. Read ABS/DSC codes...

Oh dear. I don't think we know what that is (except when you ARE spinning the wheels)! Anyone who does please chime in...

Does it feel like the TC is triggering? If so... maybe you have one odd wheel (it's happened). Worth checking very carefully that they are the same sizes etc on the same axle.

Check inflation, too, but probably that's OK.

I wonder if a slightly failed wheel bearing might be to blame, as another alternative.

OK ill check.
the wheels are the same wheels ive ran for just shy of two years.
Yes the traction light comes on if you "fry the rear tyres" (good job you can turn it off

when I lose all power the light flashes but no loss of traction.i'll check the pressures, I also put new front tyres on not about 3 months ago that are slightly wider ????

I wonder if the TC light might be used by the ABS module (the one module does all of ABS, DSC & TC) to mean something as well as the obvious. Maybe a distress signal. Various other lights do that.

There may be codes in the ABS module. An advanced jag-type tool can read them. Might be worth getting a tool (not especially cheap) or just getting the codes read for you - ask a dealer or indy what they'd charge.

I think you're in a unique situation - sorry to say.
