Default Help jaguar 2000 s type 4.0

2000 Jaguar s type 4.0 199000 miles. Car is stuck in park. The shifter will move all the way down to drive but only the park will remain red. It never engages the other gears? Help!?

Seems either the shift cable to the gearbox is broken/disconnected, or the gearshift lever housing in the console is broken.

Use the forum search function for more information on both conditions.

Well that didn't work out the way I expected...

Do the earlier cars have the the two 8 mm bolts on the U.S. drivers side of the transmission that attach the gearshift cable to the transmission assembly?

They get loose, fall out, and the shifter stop shifting.

No, or no problems anyway.

Usually the cable stretches instead and may need replacing.

Or the plastic part breaks in the shift mechanism.
