Default Help need with ignition lock.

Hi all,

I have been trying for the last 2 hrs to remove the ignition switch, it says in JTIS- detach the ignition switch lock cylinder and remove, but i can't see how.
Its a late 2002 onwards UK car.

Thanks.

Sorry Simon, I just looked it up on alldatadiy and they are as vague as JTIS.

Good luck, and if you are able please take some photos and post them up when you figure it out.

I correct myself from above.

1) Turn key to position I

2) Release the retaining tang

3) Remove the ignition lock cylinder

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum Patrick,

Perhaps you should post an intro in the new members section then explain your problems in the tech section.

Welcome to the forum rwcjag,

We got your identical 'reported post' in the Moderator Forum.

You don't have sufficient posts to be able to open PDF's on the forum so I've put the JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System - the Workshop Manual) Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Removal procedure PDF on my MediaFire account for you. You can download it from this link:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/0u79xa...k_Cylinder.pdf

Post again with further details on how far you have got with the removal if you need more information.

Also, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Can you post some photos of the switch/barrel?

The switch/barrel is probably secured by shear bolts. Look for what appears to be rivet heads.

Thanks.

I asked for photos so I could tell you how to to remove it.

If it is attached with shear bolts, they need to have the heads drilled out or ground off. You might even be able to get a hold of the heads with vice grips if there is enough room, in order to unscrew them, who knows.
