Help needed with 03 S-type asap
Hey guys! My mom has an 03 s-type and the other day she was going down the road and it just shut off. She pulled over and it started back up and she was able to get it home. Once she got home, it would not turn over. I did a search and saw a few people on this site had similar problems and the general consensus was the battery. I put a new battery in it for her and it is still not starting. Here is what it's doing:
All lights/power windows/etc work. When I turn the key to the "on" position, it flashes a few messages. It flashes DSC not available, gearbox fault, and a few others that I cant recall at the moment. I checked every fuse in the car that I could find (the ones in the box in the trunk and the one under the dash on the pass. side) and I cleaned the connections on the battery. I am not familiar with Jaguars but as I understand, they can be a PITA when it comes to troubleshooting because the smallest thing can cause a big problem and it might not even seem related to the problem. If anyone has a list of things to check or some ideas of what could be the problem I would greatly appreciate it. I plan on going over there tomorrow to try to fix it or at least figure out why it's not starting. Thanks guys!

Did you put in the correct battery? Did you hook up the vent tube?
What was the batteries rating?
We have multiple threads on batteries and you must use the correct one.
I really like the Bosch one. Pep boys carries it and it has vents from both sides with a plug so you can plug off the vent you don't need.
Jaguar is no different than any other modern car. Lot's of electronics!

Battery is an interstate battery (everything is the same as the old one that was in there that was 5 years old). It is fully charged. I went over there to mess with it and I happened across a thread on here somewhere buried deep in the forums about the parking brake. I put the key in and turned it to the "on" position. Every fault it has popped up just like normal. I turn the key and nothing. No clicks or anything. Its just like turning the car off. I reached down and hit the parking brake button and released it then set it again. I turned the key and it fired up for about 10 seconds and died. I hit the parking brake again and fired it up and it ran without problem. It still dies going down the road every once in a while but for some reason if you pull over and hit the parking brake button it will fire back up. I don't understand this car at all. Hopefully this helps with the troubleshooting. I'm almost ready to tell her that I'll tow it to the junk yard.

I don't have a code reader and it only throws the codes when it won't turn over. Once it is running, there are no faults or check engine light. I would have to take it to Advance or O'reillys and hope is doesn't start and use their reader and with my luck I would get it there and it would run and start every time until I got it back home.

And I appreciate all the help. I don't see how I'm not trying to help myself? If I were not trying to help myself I would have just taken it to a Jaguar dealer and told them to fix whatever and bill me later.

this ones definitely strange... s-types suddenly shutting off while in motion seems to be getting common around here...
the fact that fiddling with the ebrake allows you to start it is strange as well...
best guess here is maybe something still related to the battery, or some bad wiring...
not sure if reading the codes will do anything for you either... if it was cranking but not starting, reading codes might tell you something,
But if the key is turned to start and it won't even crank, i start thinking battery or PATS/immobilizer issue....
