Default Help please new guy

HI GUYS I USED TO HANG ON THE XJ-40s FORUM! SO IM NOT THAT NEW...

Anyways, tomorrow i will be picking up one of my dream cars which is a s-type i have been wanting one for ever but i have read the craziest stories and bad reviews.

so the cat im picking up is far from perfect but a great price IMO, $1,000. it is 2001 v6 has a 120k but it needs a catalytic converter, top engine seal and engine sensor.

inside and outside looks mint

so my questions are: is it worth trying to fix? how hard would it b to fix the seal? i will have someone install the cat converter.

thanks and im looking fwd to add this car to my driveway

Hey, this may be a good deal ya have here. Are you a Do It Yer selfer? For $1000, you can either fall in love with her or flip her for a profit. The 2003-08 S-Types are superior in many respects (6 speed ZF trans., suspension, etc.).

Sure its worth the fix!

If the following has not been done, I would replace:

Spark Plugs
Coils
Upper Plenum (Intake) Seals
Lower Intake Gaskets
Rubber Elbow under Lower Intake
IMT O rings
Cabin Filter
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Clean MAF Sensor

*Replace all PVC vacuum lines

The above parts should run no more than $400.00. Since it is your "dream" I would make it right the first time. And what the hell, a nice "dream vehicle" for under $1,500.00, SWEET!

thanks 4 all the replies, I bought the car!!!! now a couple of more questions. would you drive the car home about 35 miles with the issues that it has? can it cause more serious damage? (has a bad valve seal and is running on 5 cylinders) due to oil in one spark. i will fix everything before driving around but i want to have it at my house asap!

When you mention oil in one spark are you referring to oil leaking into the combustion chamber or oil in the spark plug well? I would suggest if you have oil in the combustion chamber I would invest the $$$ on a tow to your house. Better to be safe than sorry. If you have oil present in the spark well that is causing the misfire and the "valve seal" you are referring to is the cam cover gasket then driving 35 miles easily should be doable. But if I was in your shoes I would err on the side of caution and have the Jag towed. Good Luck.
