Smile Help please P1646 fault code - Location on engine

Hi,

Hopefully you can help me with my first post.

I have a UK 2004 S Type 2.5L V6. The engine warning light has been on for a few weeks now. The fault code is P1646.

I know that is the upstream O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1. I have ordered the part off e-bay from a seller with excellent reviews on selling that part.

The problem I have is that I can't find where it goes!. Please could someone let me know (in laymans terms please!) where Bank 1 Sensor 1 is on this type of vehicle. My friends and I have spend about 2 hours looking for it.

Many thanks

Cats have to run VERY hot as do O2 sensors so it's near the engine end of the cat. (Upstream means nearer the engine.)

I don't know the 2.5 much but cats are typically in fat piping that slopes to join the rest of the exhaust.

I am not a hundred % sure on the 2.5L as I do not frequent the UK boards. I had the P1646 code on our US Model 3.0L V6 a couple months back. Our upstream sensor is located right above the oil filter, on our "driver side", again this is a US LHD 2005 MY.

I replaced the sensor when I did the last oil change as it made it easier to access the sensor when the oil filter is removed. After replacement, I cleared code and all was good to go.

Following are a couple of pictures that may help out. There is a 10mm nut holding the wiring harness bracket for the sensor to the engine block. Also take note on how to release wiring connection, it took me longer to figure that out than the whole oil change.

Do you need to know where the O2 sensors are?

Or do you need to know which bank is which?

[/QUOTEI have the same code. I'd it the same for the U.S. 2004 v6 model. I thought it was somewhere under the hood. I'm having a hard time locating it myself.. so I must change the sensor from under the vehicle

Many thanks

whu, you are experiencing silence on your question for the simple reason that there are not many if any 2.5L owners on this board. I personally have never even seen a picture of the 2.5L, I have been a member here since 2009. The 2.5L were not available/option for the North American market.

I took a look at our 3.0L North American 2005 S Type, I can see the upstream sensors from above, but one would be working blind to disconnect the wiring harness, which in my case was a pain to figure out.

I hate to say you might want to check with the UK Jaguar Forum, you may find the answer you are looking for.

Sorry
