I've only owned the car for a few months but drive everyday and am very proactive on maintenance. I found a local shop owned by a Jaguar enthusiast with very reasonable prices (compared to the Jaguar dealer) He also has the equipment to properly service my year model. At purchase, I flushed every system containing fluids switching to BG products and replaced the battery as well as the radiator hoses, plugs and put on new tires. No issues were discovered along the way and all together this initial maintenance update was under $1600. (The dealer wanted over $4,000 for the same job!) BG warrenties any component using their products and stands behind it. (know this from previous Chryslers) At 132,000 plus miles, everything works on the car and no leaks or problems electrical or mechanical. I love the care and drive it over the C300 S Mercedes parked next to the Jag. From reading the responses here, I may just be lucky or just got a "good" one. Time will tell.

I'm looking to give my old Porsche a Jag playmate:
Either a 4.2L S-type or an XJ350.
This thread gives me some hope that post 130k Jags are indeed survivors
with knowlegeable DIY owners who do the right things for longevity..
With old Porsches, more often than not the high mileage cars tend to go on to run forever.
I'm focusing on 2004-2006 V8's that have 120-140k... And
- at least 1 tranny service,
- coolant tank upgrade,
- timing chain & pad replacement,
- good maintenance records.
My 944 has 281,000 miles on its 6th timing belt and runs like a sewing machine.

I'm glad I got my car before I found this thread! Wow, I'm glad I got my car as a gift! Well, I only have 77k miles, but I'm the fourth owner, it started life as a leased vehicle, and its been in two accidents. The water pump just failed, I have the occasional transmission whoosh sound, the climate control acts up, to get cold a/c, I have to run it in manual, on Lo. Also, steering squeak, right rear window not moving up or down, and I have some suspension noises when I go over bumps, I'm thinking the sway bar links need replacing, but, other than the above, it does run good, and I put 70 miles per day on it, 5 days a week.

It should be well known by now that the later 4.2L V-8's do not have any timing chain and/or tensioner problems.
Jaguar worked very hard and went thru 3 versions of tensioners before the 4.2L came out. They finally got it fixed right!
Take that one off your list.
Add changing the DCCV instead and really by this time it should have failed and been replaced anyway.
Also don't forget to throw away all the factory lug nuts and get solid SS ones.

2005 S-Type
I just bought my S-Type and it has 225,000 miles on it and I was told it had a different engine put in it at 150,000 miles but I do not know if he engine was rebuilt or just swapped. The only issues my Jag has is the A/C runs warm during stops, a sagging head liner and the adaptive cruise control doesn't work, only regular cruise but I think it cause they got into a minor impact but the only damage that is noticeable is the front right fog light and minimal damage to the bottom of the bumper.

Yes, great thread. Our 2005 4.2 S-Type has 92K miles. The paint still looks great, too. It had warranty work done on rack and pinion, cooling system/heater assy several times, frozen closed break caliper, as well as the gas tank and ECM/TCM campaigns. After 6yr/100K warranty, we have had about $2K of additional cooling system repairs (thermostat housing and leaking hose under the manifold) and (today) reprogram of transmission and transmission flush (transmission fault light came on, then went off after restart on two occasions two weeks apart).
Anything I should know about a 100,000 mile service based on the deep experience base here?

Grandpa owned it before a leak in the radiator overheated the engine blowing the headgasket.....my son wanted it so $6k later addressing all the shortcomings mentioned on this great thread the car is running like a champ....a few trips Phx-Georgia....and phx-Miami with no issues.....avg mileage 26.2mpg.....then enlarged throttle body mina gallery intake and exhaust...28.6mpg on my trip from phx-sf and back!

I have a 2001 3.0 S Type with 107000 miles on it and a few of the ignition coils just went bad recently.
No other issues since I bought it new in 2000 other than general maintenance items such as battery, tires and brakes. Oh yes, the directional signal lamp socket had to be "refurbished".

STR Mileage - Great Car!
I have 127,000 on my STR. Best car I have ever owned. It has never left me stranded. I did have a bad batch of gas a bit ago, but flushed it out. The tranny slipped a few times, but was fixed with a flush and new fluid. No problems since. Right now, I have a trouble code P0171 & P0174 which I am working on, but the car is still running great.
I must say that I need to change the DCCV to get my A/C operating correctly. That has been a pain. My radio reception sucks.... always has. Occasionally, the Navigation screen doesn't load properly and I have a blank screen. Only happened a couple of times.
All in all though, no more problems than any other good car. I would buy another one for sure.

I'm at 149k and boy do I love the car, but it's been a hard experience for me.
She was a gift from my Uncle at 144k and since then I've had to replace
Fuel Pump - window regulator - Steering fluid pump - steering rack & pinion - Catalytic converter - radiator - front upper control arms - fix heat/AC unit
And I now currently have a random won't start(though it cranks) and a CATs fault after trying to address squeaking noises. And to make matters worse it's my first car and I have no previous auto DIY experience or auto mechanical experience for that matter, so all these issues I've had to bring it to the mechanics to fix.
Sigh... I mean I really lover her but the repairs have been draining.
Anyone else experienced and found the fix for https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...andomly-56931/ . Paid $150 for a shop to diagnose but the car started every time they tried to start it. And $265 to another guy who replaced the starter.. but it's still happening.

My 2005 S-Type 4.2 V8 also has 92K
Still runs like new !

(Jaguar s Type R Sedan 4 Door | eBay) may not be a forum members but hey you did say lowest mileage S-Types...56K is still low in my world though

Mine is an '08 3.0 with 52000 miles. I've had it for 2 years and only normal maintenance except for replacing almost all of the front body plastic and radiator after an altercation with a big fat raccoon. Both the car and the raccoon survived the encounter.

My Jaguar is at 140k miles, which is pretty normal for me. I would advise not to be frightened by the miles of a car, but by bad maintanance. Where I live- in Eastern Europe, many of the second hand cars are well over 250k miles when they change their owner. Also, if you see what our roads look like, you would be absolutely shocked- enourmous holes in the road are a common sight.
