Default How do I diagnose EPB problems

2007 S-type 3.0

Car has been sitting for 7 months @ Jag dealer dealing with long list of problems, however rear brakes was not one of the problems we were told
to pickup the car by the service dept and it would need a flatbed to get it home
( hour drive from dealer ) how classy. car has only 60,000kms nice condition.
But the rear brakes don't unlock. service dept wouldn't give any insight to this matter. By the way car has still has an extended warranty bought thru Jaguar
dealer $3.500.00 out the window, warranty and has paid for no repairs. sorry for venting
I would just love to drive this beautiful car again

Sounds like a failing battery. Lots of info about it here.

If it were me, I would put $120.00 battery in the vehicle and go from there.

Default E brake stuck on resloved.

OK, Replaced battery (one with a side vent) for $175.00 CAD, Old battery voltage was below 12.5 volts.
Started car e brake light remains on as well the brakes, turned car off.
Started back up no brake light and brakes released everything is fine.

Many thanks, Joycesjag

Thanks for the follow-up, good to know all is well. That darned EPB is so great when working, and such a real pain when there is a problem.

Fortunately, the maintenance rules seem to be simple - keep the EPB clean and lubricated, replace any broken plastic parts or seized cables, and make sure the battery is supplying 12.5 or more volts.

I've got a question. Is it normal to hear the epb engage? Mine has made a noise ever since I bought the car, not really a bad sound but you can definatly hear it.
Thanks!

Yes. It's a motor, cable, brakes etc so I think it would be a bit odd if you couldn't hear it.

Very true. I guess I'm trying to distinguish between the "Thats the parking brake" and "I better get under there and fix that" sound.

Well, being mechanical it needs maintenance. Odds on no-one has done any unless you have.

Definitely the epb system needs maintenance. Thanks to JagV8 who told me after I posted the same problem!

After I turn the ignition off, when I pull out the key, the epb engages with an abnormal growl.

I hold the epb paddle down for now when I pull the key out until I get it addressed.

I don't want to get stuck somewhere and have to get towed!

I've done a little maintenence on it, just what I could with the rear wheels off. I'll have to get into it this weekend and make sure everything is good.

Thanks for your help everyone!
