I need help. STR's bad differential
Hey guys, I'm sad to report that my STR's differential is broken.
I've read somewhere before the Lincoln LS may or may not share such part with our STRs?? If so which years?
And if not then what are my options? Rebuilt? In the worst case I can always replace it with a use unit, but are all S type differentials the same?
Thanks.

Sorry to hear it - do tell what happened!
Also sorry to say I don't think any LS one will fit an STR. Wreckers will have them. Note you need one from a similar engined (poss the 4.2 NA) car - the 3.0 one is no good (wrong ratios).

It's rare to have that happen?? Can you tell us what the symptoms were? Rear diff noises and whining have been reported once or twice but so far the rear diff seems to be trouble free.

I had my differential replaced under warranty back in 2009. There was a TSB on the problem. It would have cost about three grand if it was out of pocket.
TSB Number:205003NHTSA Number:10021035TSB Date:September 11, 2006Date Added to File:February 26, 2007Failing Component:
Suspension:Rear:Axle:Non-Powered Axle AssemblySummary:
Whine from the rear of the vehicle at 60 mph. Install a new axle assembly and axle housing bushing.
Not sure how far back it goes though. There was a re-design of the differential done earlier this summer that impacted both the S-Types and the new model XK series.

That sounds like jag ref JTB00053 (issue 2 or later). May be on here or findable via google?
edit: Sorry I don't think it is - that's about a driveshaft

hmmm! i am interested in hearing more about this!
Yes, I contacted the Euro Chop Shop and they did have one thank God... So i bought it yesterday, and now I just have to put it in.
As a side note for those debating on the rumor: Today I visited my Jaguar technician friends at the local Jag dealer and they did say there is an update for the S Type differential. Apparently it included a whole swap on the axels and a whole new rear end unit... Oh well, I won't be dealing with all of this myself. I'm just happy that I will have my car back to normal sooner than later!
Thank you everyone for their help again!
