I'm researching into the possibility of tapping into an unused "ignition on" power source in one of the fuse boxes on my STR. I will be adding a set of LED DRL and a power point in the trunk to charge a flashlight and a Lithium jump pack.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If it is any help here is a link to the electrical guide for 05MY onward cars from vin number N13089.

Note that my STR although built in Feb 2004 it is a 05MY (4.75) car.
The change was over the christmas holidays so all s-types built in 2004 are 05MY cars.
If you have a 04MY car it was built in 2003.
Because of this just to make things clear to all of us it is a good idea to include part of your vin number in your group signature just as I have done so we all know what model year car you have.

How much current will each additional circuit be drawing?
My thoughts are to use relays for these extra circuits. To switch each relay on and off, you can tap into an existing ignition-switched circuit without risk of overload, as the relay coil only draws a fraction of an amp. For the actual power to the end loads, tap into battery power with an inline fuse and, route it via the relay contacts. With the ignition off, the relay coil is de-energized and battery power is removed from the end loads.

Great idea, Karl. Inside the cabin, 12v ignition could be tapped into at the cigarette lighter circuit. Any ideas for inside the engine compartment?
