Default Info display flashing black squares

Hi all.

Today I was starting to get the front bumper off to do the headlight adjuster mod, so I had the ignition on to squirt the headlamp washers and run around to the front of the car to catch them in the out position (which is possible if you move quick lol).
Anyway, when I turned the ignition off I noticed that the info display below the main speedo and tachometer was flashing between blank and full of black squares about once a second. After a while it stopped doing this if the car was locked (main PCM shut down time?)

Anyone seen this before and know why it could be doing it? My only guess is that the battery is failing or its due to it being one of the hottest days for many years?? Thing is the car starts fine, no sign of battery weakness.

Cheers
Steve

They always start with a bad battery till it's utterly dead. Not heard the nav do that before.

I decided to check the cluster for dtc's so put it in cluster test mode (hold trip button down while keeping the ignition on and keeping it held down until it says 'test mode').
It did all the checks like gauge sweep and bulb test okay, and came up with dtc's of 9601 9213 and 9246...... But when I switched the ignition off it didn't do the flashing black squares thing. Bizarre! Seems to have fixed itself?!
Now I need to check what the dtc's relate to.

And the results are:
9601 - pats received incorrect key code from key transponder (Unprogrammed key)
9213 - pats reports number of programmed keys below minimum required
9246 - ????

Some time in 9 years it's stored a few codes. Clear them and see which if any come back. Factory-type tool to clear.

Or, cheaper, ignore them.

Can the Mongoose clear instrument cluster dtc's? Don't think I've seen that when using it.
