Exclamation Info on performance upgrades

I have a 03 S type R and i am looking at doing some normal bolt on mods to improve its performance. I am looking into doing exhaust, intake, S/C pulley swap ,etc. So what i need is some of you guy's prior experience on this. So what brands /WED SITES to get or stay away from. What mods are good to do ,etc. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT!

Thanks

You pretty much nailed all the mods. Mafiaoso just came out with a new intake that warrants a look at. Exhausts are more of a taste than anything else as they all help develop more horsepower (Mina, Arden, Magnaflow, full custom). Pulleys come in three main varieties, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 (correspond to boost levels), and most are the same so feel free to go with the cheapeast. Porting the s/c is a hot topic around here so tread lightly.

mina exhaust...or your own

mafiosos group buy intake...mandatory

upper pully is easiest from eurotoys or mina.. or do the lower pully but a lot more work

basically thats it for reasonable $$ beyond sc porting...twin screw sc mod etc

Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it.

I will get a base line on the car this weekend on my brothers dyno. I plan on it anyway. I have a small coolant leak that i need to address first. I just want to see if my mod combos are actually making more power when i do them.

by the way what kind of qtr mile times do the type r cars actually turn @ sea level with good air? Thanks again.

Cheers

The one that ran a 13.1 stock. As far as modded, couldn't tell you. I ran bad times stock as it is tricky (for me at least) to launch these heavy, peg-legged cars.

I believe the R that layed the 13.1 was stock its on dragtimes.com. I cant remember what if any mods he had. A few mods should dip you into the 12's.

Welcome aboard Stypernva. Dragtimes posts a 13.1 1/4 mile for a stock STR with a K&N a/f on a cool night. A full exhaust mod (hi-flow cats, x-pipe, flow through mufflers, etc., 3 lb pulley (16 lbs.), K&N a/f, Mafioso's modded air intake tube, and a low temp thermostat may yield you 50+ hp over stock (est. 450+ h.p.). Add in a s/c port/polish and ya may recieve an additional 15 hp. I'm waiting for the weather to break to yank off the 1.5 pulley and pop on the 3 lb pulley and Mafioso's modded air intake elbow. Hope to dyno-tune her in the spring.

With the coolant leak mentioned you're gonna be spending a lot of time or $$$ on the car without mods

About 10 hours, I'd think.

How is it that you S-Type R guys have more 'modding spirit' over here than in the XKR group ?

We're crazier?

The engines are fairly similar (if 4.2 SC), aren't they? Send any nutters (oops, I mean modders) here

A lot of the cars getting the heavier mods are older, higher mileage, out of warranty and such STRs are inexpensive to pick up. So maybe the typical XKR buyer is more concerned about preserving his investment?

Motors are the same, the differences begin at the blower discharge manifold, intercoolers..

Have no fear my fellow MOD GUYS! I dont get spooked that easy. I always like to mod my cars reguardless. Mine is low low miles clean unit but i will put my spin to it. I will do my reair on the coolant leak this weekend. Looks to be that coolant line under the super charger. Not hard just looks to be time consuming. What is actually released to the public is never what the original engineer wanted any way, right? They always get their ideas watered down by production time! Thanks for the info fella's.

Cheers

There's a couple of threads with some Jag techs commenting on this repair. Worth looking for.

Someone was even looking into getting a better grade silicone hose made up as a replacement.

Default More Desperate

Us STR's are more desperate for power than the XKR's, so we over compensate? Perhaps we mod because we're more immature and don't mind screwin up our cars? S&*t! Forget about this topic. It's messing me up man. I think I better call my analyst.
