Default Issue after J004 Recall - faults & no start

Two days after having the J004 recall (both ECM & TCM updated) done on my 05 S-Type 4.2L, I went to start it up in the morning and the engine would not crank. The dash lights lit up and I got a boat load of fault messages (e.g. Engine System fault, Park Brake fault, DSC not avail.). I disconnected the battery for a few hours and it started up fine after reconnecting. With all the moisture related posts found in the archive, I should note that it had been raining the previous day and I had been driving it w/o the belly pan as I was chasing down a minor coolant leak in the DCCV area.

I guess I'm thinking either they damaged one of the connectors when doing the update or didn't get one of them back together properly and this allowed moisture to interfere...?

Can someone indicate which connectors they interface with when doing the updates so that I can inspect them? Does anyone have any other ideas or info that would be helpful?

Many thanks!

Bob

I don't know for sure but it's my understanding that those updates are done using the DLC (OBD connector) in the cabin and that nothing at all would need disconnecting.

Be sure to check for moisture anywhere in the rear well (where the spare wheel is)!

Brad, if you have the factory Jaguar battery, I would start there. A failing battery causes a host of faults and codes. Just a few months back, us 2005'ers have had to replace the factory battery.

Brad, I was reading new posts, you added in the XJ section that you were "having the same problems" is your S Type getting the limp home as well?

joycesjag...No I'm not getting the limp home mode. That is because I can't even start my car when this happens. It is an intermittent starting issue that I am having.

Thanks
Brad

Hey Brad,

I never did find out why I saw this issue... it never happened again. Perhaps the batt. was a tad low from being at the dealership (maybe they had the key on for an extended period of time while doing my J004 re-call)... that's the only thing that I can think of.

I just tried my battery and it's still bad. Thanks for the advice though.
