Default J gate stuck in Park

So here we are again with something else going wrong lol
Stuck in Park, no error codes.

Right, Replaced the microswitch in the J Gate mechanism only to find the same fault. If you click the microswitch whilst holding the brake pedal you can hear the ignition solenoid operate (which is correct), but the j gate solenoid doesnt move forward so the mechanism can move allowing the lever to pull down.
Do these solenoids ever die?
Reading 13V at the solenoid supply connector
Reading continuity at the solenoid connector

Apart from the bolts underneath the car being loose (they weren't last week when i checked) what else goes wrong with these J gates
Do you have to take the centre console right side trim panel off to remove the gear cable from the ball socket on the shifter or can you just prise it off then lift out the mechanism and unplug the green block connector?

No personal experience myself, but the following two links have a lot of good info.

In this thread, the fix was cleaning some "caramelized fuzz" that had collected on a circuit board. Also note the video showing how to manually actuate the solenoid in case you need to move the car first:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...solved-150615/

More good info in this thread, including a good primer (in post #12) about how circuits are controlled in modern vehicles. It sounds like you've verified constant power to the solenoid, but not that the switched ground has been activated:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-found-123379/

Also note there are two brake switches under the dash. If I understand it correctly, one is for the brake lights and the other for the key and shift interlocks. I think you said the key interlock is behaving, so that would indicate that switch is good. Might be worth verifying this logic to be sure.

Have you tried applying 12v directly to the shift interlock solenoid?

There were several TSBs issued to address the gear selector being stuck in the 'P' position:

Some refer to the 5R55N and others to the 6HP26/28.

Groovy, thanks for the update. For letting us know, you are to be commended.

Do you know exactly what failed within the J gate? Was it the solenoid, or perhaps the circuit board?

I'd be interested in any further details you may find. We don't necessarily have to drill down to the chip level, as few people are comfortable making circuit board repairs. I'm thinking some fairly basic steps such as "check voltage at pin X at connector ABC" or similar. That way, the next time somebody experiences the same symptoms, we can send them here for some specific checks before a possible J-gate replacement.
