I’m looking for some help with my 2002 Jaguar S type R occasionally and usually after it’s rained I have some electrical issues!
No front lights ( including indicators)
No windscreen wipers
No horn
No interior lights
The car starts and drives ok although the steering sometimes feels as though the power assist isn’t working. The steering wheel is tight to turn.
The battery is new and reading 12.6 Volts. I have no signs of water ingress in boot and connections in engine bay no signs of water. Would appreciate anybody’s thoughts on the above!
Can you DIY any repairs?
Can you run any scans to check for codes?
Do you have a service manual so you can trace electrical circuits?
If not find the proper documents for your car. Note you have a VERY early STR so be aware it will be considered a "facelift" model that was released in 2003 in the rest of the world.
I have attached the electrical guide and I am lucky today because it is big and I was not sure the forum software would allow me to upload it.

I think I found a common link to all of the inoperative systems. But first, some fuses to check:
Primary junction box (inside cabin, forward of right front door hinges): Fuses #20, #23, #25, #30, and #33.
Rear power distribution box (inside trunk): Fuse #13
If those fuses are okay, look at figure 01.6 in the wiring diagram. Note the 4 relays down the middle of the page. Specifically, note how Switched System Power Relay #2 feeds four fuses in the Primary Junction Box. Those fuses in turn feed all of the systems presently not working.
For a quick check, place your finger on that suspect relay. In the diagram, it's called relay #2, but confusingly it is located in the R11 position. Don't let the labeling trip you up. With your calibrated finger on said relay, have a helper cycle the ignition on and off. You should feel the relay click with each cycle. This is a test to see if the relay is receiving the command to actuate and is responding.
If no response, try swapping with another relay of the same size. If still no response, there are more details we can check, but this should be some good preliminary stuff.
Thanks for replies! I have no blown fuses. I’ve substituted relays. Prior to this post The fault itself is intermittent and usually happens after rain. I have read an earlier post from Philip S Type who had exact same issues even down to the wipers coming on by themselves occasionally also the oil warning light coming on, which I forgot to mention. It appears he cured the faults by replacing a front electronic module! Which he claims didn’t need to be reprogrammed just plug & play. So I’ve sourced a second hand module so will wait to see what happens. Tonight I have interior lights sidelights and main beam working. Thanks for the advice much appreciated. Will keep you posted!
There was a known issue with some S-Types where the front wiring loom behind the bumper cover chafed and eventually wore through the insulation. This could well be why you only get issues in the rain. In addition has your car ever had any front damage, again this can damage the insulation on the wiring loom. It may have been taped up at the time, but the tape may have come away now.
However, these are just shots in the dark, so may be way off the actual fault!!!

This could well be why you only get issues in the rain. In addition has your car ever had any front damage, again this can damage the insulation on the wiring loom. It may have been taped up at the time, but the tape may have come away now.

. Hi Mellow I’ve read about the issue with the wiring loom behind the bumper, do you know if the bumper has to be removed to access this? I’ve looked under the bumper to try and locate the loom but can’t see anything! 👍
Yes let us know. The reason I said that is I had a FEM problem with my old 2003 Lincoln LS. As you know a very similar car to the S-Type. I purchased a used FEM and had Ford program it to my car. It did fix my problem too!

Update!
Received my 2nd hand module this afternoon, removed trim for access and then I thought I’d just check my lights to make sure the fault was still there! Yep you guessed it the car is back to Normal. All my front lights are now working interior lights, wipers and washers. So I’ve gone ahead and fit the module on the plus side all my lights wipers etc are still working so I guess it doesn’t have to be reprogrammed to the car. Saying that haven’t actually started the engine as battery on charge. Test drive tomorrow. Be in touch

day 3 of the car running perfect I just wish the fault had still been on when I changed the module. Very warm weather here in England at the moment so just waiting for a downpour to test it properly, yes I have had the hosepipe on it 😂 Thanks for all the comments and advice very much appreciated. I really like your SS front end screen inserts. They go well with color of your car too. They wouldnot fit my 2005 STR but perhaps the manufacturer has a later style?

The body kit is Jaguar XS if you Google it there’s a couple of different types you may find one to fit your year!

Hello Sayzie. I’ve had this picture in my camera roll for years. I’m from the states and have been searching for an XS bumper for years, as Yk, they’re only make for the UK models. It’s rare that a facelift Model had the XS kit, let alone a STR. Were you able to just fit the lip to your bumper?
