Caught this today, lets all respond and tell them how awesome our cars are to increase the resale value on a national level.

One thing I noticed, is the general (uninformed) car buff, seems to absolutely HATE the S-Type.
Heck, even the average mechanic, salesperson, parts counter guy, et all, spread misinformation regarding these models.
Myself and other S-Type enthusiasts seem to appreciate the much maligned Jaguar model, and found a great deal of value, enjoyment and satisfaction from owning one of these.
This sure makes selling my STR a whole lot more difficult though!
Personally, I don't think these cars are as hideous as people make them out to be. Base S-Types, I suppose are pretty bad, but I think 03 STR never fails to impress and get "wow looks expensive" comments from everyone.

I voted Nice Price naturally. The STRs maybe one of the best bargains for factory hot rods right now. Even though I have a base model, just about everybody at work admires it and when go to lunch, I usually have a full car load.
Ditto to carelm. My 03 STR both turns heads and strikes fear...the estimated 450 chp (est. 480 lb/ft torque) s/c motor kicks *** beginning to end, the Brembos give her world class whoa, and her looks are timeless. A MB 550 S can drive by and elicit a few heads to turn, the STR turns almost all the heads.
Reading some of the comments on that article, made me wanna kick the guy that said "Ten grand for a ten year old Contour???" or "it's like a Ford Taurus with 400hp". In my opinion, nobody makes a nicer interior than Jag. American luxury is a joke in comparison. I wish I only paid $10k for mine, what a steal! My friend's parents bought theirs brand new in '04.
I still want one though.

Mine is only a naturally aspirated v8 4.2 with 300 ponies but I reckon she is the most beautiful; gorgeous; comfortable; fabulous car I've ever owned.
I've had BM's; Mercs; a Porsche 911 and lots of other good stuff but the pleasure I get from driving my new-to-me 2004 S-type is far and away more.
And I only paid the equivalent of $3200 !!!

I voted "nice price", nat. but the guy commenting as "The Stig" makes a good point about the trans. That is the only thing that disappoints me about my STR. Why can't I use all of the power in 1st-gear? And if someone says "cuz the trans won't handle it", then they should've had a better trans in it.

Has nothing to do with the transmission not being able to take it.
The XKR has the same motor and transmission combo, but it's transmission software allows it to hit redline in the first three gears.
I believe I read somewhere at some point the STR's transmission software was designed as such because of Jaguar's design philosophy at the time.
Idea being, this car already has an abundance of power throughout the rev-band; going all the way to redline in the first few gears is unnecessary and unbecoming of a proper english gentleman. The Jaguar driver is a sophisticated chap who up shifts with a dignified sensibility rather than fulfil that uncivilized need to bury the tach in the red.

?? Really? Does anyone know more about this? (I'll start a new thread)
It's been discussed before and a member or maybe a few have actually done it. Basically you reflash with a different file to the one jag intend, by renaming the diff file to be the name the jag tool expects.
