Got a good deal on an 02 s type 4.0v8. Drives well except when accelerating hard from stop or low gear. Only notice when accelerating hard. Otherwise smooth ride. Anyone have experience with this issue? Going to get tranny fluid checked/replaced might help?

It's liable to be misfires - if so do NOT keep doing it or as well as fixing the cause you'll need new cats.

But might be blocked cats or fuel filter or failing fuel pump or .... heck might even be chain tensioners failing (they do - have you replaced them? engine death if not).

Some of these you can do via OBD but the tensioners (& guides etc) are critical on the 4.0

There may well be a good reason why you got a "great deal"...

I have read your post three times and do not see a specific description of what is wrong with your Jag's performance except that whatever it is happens when accelerating hard from a stop or in low gear. What exactly is happening when you accelerate hard?
