Default Jon you win the DCCV award

There are a couple of us on this board that have been here along time. I believe Jon and I were the only 2 owners that have been running with the original DCCV until yesterday. Joyces Jag started to leak at the DCCV about mid last week, I ordered a new one from Frank over at SNG Barret ($130.00), it was delivered Friday. Perfect fit.

I won't take up bandwidth as Zane and a couple of others have posted DIY's with pics. On the 3.0 I had about twenty minutes in replacement. Pulled out the coolant reservoir, removed top radiator hose from radiator, removed 1-8mm bolt, boom, 3 hoses to valve slipped off easily. I did not use the handy dandy $40.00, spring loaded, clamp removal tool that Zane purchased from Amazon, Prime I presume.

Reconnected everything added coolant, started motor to purge cooling system. I added "coolant" to my system as well on such a beautiful day here in the Carolinas yesterday (upper 70's). Finished Joyces Jag pulled it into garage. Grabbed more coolant for me, had 2 buddies come over went four wheeling a couple of hours. Purged my system a couple of times. Great day....

Congrats Jon on winning your trophy. I will mount Joyces old DCCV and bring to Waynes to present it to you personally!!

Hey Rick,

Glad to hear that you replaced joycesjag's original DCCV so quickly and with what sounds like extremely minimal effort. I know with my monster hands I will struggle with this job assuming I still own my car when the time eventually comes. If your widow friend winds up purchasing my car, you may be the one doing this job....

Please do not convert joycesjag's old DCCV into a trophy because as soon as you go through the ceremony of handing that sucker to me, I guarantee you that my original DCCV will fail within 72 hours....

By the way, what brand of DCCV is SNG Barratt selling? I wonder if they are all the same (Motorcraft, Bosch, etc.). Some members here have reported a higher success rate with Motorcraft but we all know that they can fail right out of the box regardless of where they came from....

TMI! TMI!

Glad your digestive tract is healthy, and I suppose you should be proud of that, but shouldn't we stick to talking about cars?

Good job, Rick, though you wasted valuable (personal) coolant pre-load time removing the reservoir!

If you'd rather swill a cold one than remove the overflow tank: A coupla loooonng 1/4" extensions for that 8mm bolt and you can get it by going alongside the upper rad hose nipple from the top. (telescoping magnet to retrieve the bolt once unscrewed) I find it better to unbolt the valve before attempting the electrical disconnect. Crawl under for the electrical. Back on top, rotate the whole assy aft/outboard/up and you can detach the inlet hose from the (formerly bottom) now top port. Disconnect the other two at the quick-connects on the RHS fenderwell. This way, you can transfer them to the new valve on the bench, taking care for alignment, and not have to redo it when you find increasing the pax side set point makes heated driver side air and vice-versa!

You'll need a catch pan....since my busboy dishpans gave up the ghost, I've been using a couple of Aldi cat litter boxes. (nesting, stackable!!! Gud Germann plastic!!!)

Now that I think about it....you apparently didn't have to pull the undertray....neither did I, but b/c it was already off to facilitate other maintenance. So it's probably worse to remove the undertray than the coolant resvr if you don't have air-tools. For me.....if I raise the bonnet on an S-type, I'm almost automatically removing the undertray and the air-box, as I know one or both will soon be in the way. On the other hand...no worries with losing the little spring clip wire that holds the hose-fitting onto the tank this way......

This method does not require the use of $33.67 hose clamp pliers
Amazon Amazon
but if ya got 'em, flaunt 'em!

Jon, you may need to borrow a small neighborhood child to disconnect the electrical connector, but apart from that, your hands should not present a handicap.
My experience thus far is that the Motorcraft valve is superior to the Four Seasons valve.

It was more of a whim to replace the DCCV on Sunday early afternoon. My buddies and I have been hitting the trails behind my house the past couple of weekends. Joyce hasn't said much, but as you know when your spouse would like to mention that one has a family and not 21 any longer.

I thought about breaking out the jack and jack stands and properly draining and possibly saving the coolant into my cheap Chinese plastic nesting boxes, but alas the chickens took a liking to those. Not wanting to bother my girls, I decided to just let them enjoy themselves dusting in the warm sunshine. That would have just added to the scope of the project. I am ashamed, I was hot, in a hurry and darn thirsty too. I was not wearing my bathrobe as usual nor drinking my cheap beer of choice. I had moved onto work boots, wife beater and sweat shorts, was chosen armor for the job along with my new look, new beer, Miller Lite!

Oh I better say something about something here before I get accused of not remaining on automobile topic. Jon I did manage to scrape the right side of my right hand pinky finger, don't know where but somewhere down near the DCCV. After removing the 8mm bolt, which I did not want to have my intact undertray eat as I did not have it removed, the valve had plenty of working room to remove the last 2 hose clamps and the tiny electrical connection. I should have bandaged my pinky finger, but I believe the purging washed out my wound pretty good. I am not worried about loosing it.

I am aghast that the committee awarded Jon a trophy without proper vetting. Jon's jag is a 2005 with only 12 years of service on an original DCCV. More clearly the winner should be David's Jag with 17 years of service on the original DCCV. We pray this terrible error in judgement will be corrected forthwith and the rightful owner of the winner's trophy awarded properly.

Whoa, please accept my deepest apologies on the oversight on my end David. That is quite a run, 17 years. I wonder if it has anything to the redesign of the post face lift DCCV's using only 3 coolant lines?

I would think that the 5-hose DCCV would be more prone to failure than the 3-hose DCCV simply because it has more potential failure points. Either way, congrats to David for winning the infamous DCCV trophy. May it serve you well....

(Giving a tearful speech composed entirely of bollocks won't be necessary)

I must admit that there have indeed been a number of times in my life when "Sorry Jon" would have been very appropriate. If you don't believe me, just ask my wife. She is the self-appointed expert on the subject....

Hey now, I never posted anything about "scatological talk". I just made reference to purging ones cooling system after replacing a 12 year old DCCV, on such a beautiful day here in the Carolinas.

Zane, Norri, Staatsof (Bob), clubraith/tbird and a few others here, have had their DCCVs all came to the same premature death. Jon and I have had an inside joke as to whose will out last whose between ourselves for quite awhile now. Quite simple "I lost" . Oh, I did not even think about blurting out a "scatological term" in replacing said DCCV, it really was a simple quick DIY for us 3.0ers.
