Not arguing with your results, but you do realize that the gains (if any) from K&N filters (or any performance filter for that matter) occur mostly due to the lack of filtering and nothing else. Test show that these performance filters flow more air by filtering less, that is they have larger holes in the filter media. They allow more dust and dirt to enter your engine and increase wear, the whole purpose of the filter in the first place. You are giving up something for the gains. As long as you are aware, it is ok. But don't think you can get something for nothing. More power for shorter engine life.

This is why we are paying attention to Mafioso's oil-less performance filter to debute.

Same problem... More airflow = more contaminants into the motor.

All the Jim Conforti intakes in the BMW world use ITG foam filters. There are several dry foam and cotton filters out there, but all provide less restriction than the factory filter.

Another example:

I agree that using the oil on a k&n isn't the best idea, especially with how sensitive the Jag MAF's and Throttle bodies are, but ANY non-stock filter app will allow more contaminants in. There is debate as to whether this will harm the engine or not in the long run, or if OEM's tune their intakes overly conservatively to keep things quiet. I've seen guys with bmw's run k&n's and other high flow filters for miles upon miles with no distinguishable wear effects.

Just my .02 of a dollar.

I couldnt even imagine Vietnam glad you made it home. I went to Iraq and Afghanistan and I feel you. I never want to go back to either one of those crapholes. What branch did you serve in?? Nevermind I just clicked your auto repair page and saw your shadowbox with your awards and see you were in the Air Force. I cant mess with the Air Force since I was raised in it as my dad did 20 years and retired. My dad also worked on F4's he was a radar mechanic for them for about 17 years till they decommisioned them and he had to switch MOS's with 3 years left. Wish I would of went Air Force but the recruiter wouldnt take me cause I was too old and they didnt need people that bad. Thats what I get joining the military when I was 26.

I'm on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, So I work Navy, Marines, Australians, Danes, Italians, and a few other countries. My family are all military. We've got Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army Air Corp, Merchant Marines, and Coast Guard covered. There are only two of us that are retiring from the military. The rest did their 2,3,4, or six year term and got out. I've had a cousin, uncle, brother, and grandfather in every war or conflict since WWI. I don't talk bad about any of the services because we all have our purpose. Of course the Air Forces purpose is to kick the crap out of them and leave them scratching their heads trying to figure what the hell happened...

I wont knock the Air Force too bad they had our back when I was in Southern Helmand last summer and we had 2 F-15's giving some air support and they dropped a nice 500lber for us. Quite a site. We had some sweet Harrier support another time but they were Marine Air. I loved watching bombs get dropped made our job alot easier.
