Default Key Fob works, now what?

I have a 2004 S Type 3.0. Remote was working fine, had to replace the battery. Now I can only use my key.

1. Tested remote at Auto Parts store to determine if it is sending a signal still-yes.

2. Do I need to go to the dealer and get the remote reprogrammed?

3. What do I do next?

I quote this trick from jaguar-forum.de :
Thema anzeigen - Schlüsselfernbedienung - S-Type 12/2002 funktioniert nicht mehr

Take the unresponsive fob and press and hold the open key. Then take the second fob and press that open key, too. So the first fob re-learns to open the car.

Some have said that the programming can be lost if the battery is out for too long.
If that's the case the dealer is the only option, if you have to go that route it may be worth considering a spare key and fob as you must program all keys/fobs at one time and can't add an extra later.
