You're as yet too new but otherwise could look in the FAQs which I suspect show you such things!

If it's working OK I'd stick to 5W30. I believe it no longer matters synth/whatever (but stick to the 10K or so change intervals, more often if you like). It doesn't seem to be oil quality or frequency of changes that kills these cars

Rust is a whole other problem over here

If you want a scare take off some of the sill/etc covers....

Consult the owners manual for appropriate viscosity of oil for your climate and use that. There's no need for semi-or full synthetic, but use whatever make you happiest.

I doubt it's the fuel filter but it's a cheap and easy thing to change.

Much more likely a (new?) leak or bad (new) coil. Could be worth a battery disconnect if not yet done, to force an engine relearn. But don't be too hopeful.

Remember the codes PDF and its column about drives (warm ups).

I am just in shock how long it took you to do the job. I am impressed. I did the same exact thing and took a lot longer for me. On the oil, everyone has their thoughts and who will ever know who is actually correct. In my opinion and only based on the way my car runs and another post by a mechanic that states the internal parts look like new when he sees synthetic oil being used, I use synthetic 5w30 always. And this is crazy but I change it every 2500 to 3000 miles. It is so easy to change the oil on the car and for me the car just seems to run better. I know I am a little over the top with it, but if it makes me happy, so be it. Good luck with your car. It sure is a beauty.

When you change the oil, I always take the existing container and pour the old oil back into it. We all know it takes a little over 7 quarts of oil but curious when you pour the old stuff away how much do you have? I have read on various threads that even not blowing oil, the car does lose it. I am seeing a little less then a quart every 750 to 1000 miles of just burning away. I am not blowing any smoke and the engine runs great and no leaks but it does eat oil. And I check my oil often and always see the stick showing its near full but when I change it I never have 7+ quarts come out. I know there is probably some that remains, I don't let it drain overnight or anything like that but wait til it stops dripping out. Have you ever measured how much of the old is left? You see how often I change it and I check it but never have to seem to top it off because stick shows its at the right level but after my 2500 or so miles I don't have 7 plus quarts when draining. Kind of weird.

At 70,000 miles, our 2005 S-Type 3.0 does not use any oil between my 6,000-mile oil & filter change intervals. According to the marks on my trusty oil drain plastic catch pan, right at 7 quarts of oil drains out every time. I allow it to drip for perhaps 20 minutes. I've always used Castrol 5W-30 conventional....

I don't know what to tell you. I never see smoke and I also let it drain about 20 minutes or so. And I know I am not leaking anything because I park it in the garage and it sits there sometimes for a few days and nothing on the floor. Maybe an oil Gremlin is coming in at night and drinking it. Could it be leaking only when driving, maybe but don't see anything wet underneath. We do have different years....with mine its always less because I pour the old stuff back into the container I used to fill it. I am not sure what does it.

How much less? Remember there's some in the filter.

Hate to say it but almost a little over a quart. I usually wait a bit until it drains out from the plug and then move the pan a little bit and take off the filter so everything in one pan. Here is a pic, I changed it and have driven about 800 miles and have not added anything. Picture was taken with small camera so out of focus but I put the minimum mark (hole) showing and you can see the oil is just a little over it. Was almost at max when I changed it and that is the other hole on the stick. Do you know what the amount between minimum and maximum? And thanks for the help.

About a litre I think. Must be escaping into the oil dimension.
