Default Key works but Transponder doesn't

Is it possible to remove the metal key part from the bad transponder section and place it into a new transponder? Just to avoid having to pay someone $100 to cut another blank key. I know it will still need to be programmed. 2003 switch blade key type.

Replacing the transponder will need to be reprogrammed try cleaning it first. See the attached link and see if it helps.

Jason, I believe you already posted a picture of what you are asking in this thread? Post#5 https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...avated-156154/
Or do you mean something else?

Yes, the locksmith only cut one key and wasn't happy with his results so he didn't charge me. The key works, but is tricky. I was wondering if I could swap the original key out with the new transponder rather than having to pay somone to cut the blank in the new transponder.

You can swap keys among the FOB's. Your picture shows where they come apart... but I'm not sure the "Transponder" that is programmed to start the car resides in the FOB. I was always of the opinion that it was somehow integral to the key itself.(maybe some of the brighter chaps will happen by and bail me out of this one)
The FOB's just pull apart. There may be a spot to prise-upon that makes it easier, but you can probably discern where that is by studying your FOBless keys.

the transponder is a small tubular crystal chip that is hot glued into a groove in the upper steel flip key half of the fob, the car will not run without it .
so split the remote lower half away. then split the top half open by prizing it in half horizontally through the flip key hinge gap , then you will have the flip key wound spring pop out at you , then you can either swap the key or the crystal or both if you want , i went the other way and swapped my upper case and the chrome flip button with the jag face on it ,as the face was missing on my key i got with the car . and retained my old key and crystal into the new case . heat the hot glue with hair dryer and the chip pulls out .
i made a spear key with the old case and with no transponder for emergency entry and had to (locktite 501) glue the key case shut again as the original clips holding the key case shut don't always do a second round ! so have super glue handy ,
the remote case clips seem more durable!
2 to 3 winds on the flip spring preload any less the flip is lazy , any more and you may injure your self with it !

You don't need to open the case just drive out the locating pin and switch the blades.

Your right norri , but I found it easier to split the case as that roll pin can be a sod to knock out, my original keys roll pin was stuck fought me hard and was way easier to split the case then knock the roll pin with the blade flat on a drilled piece of wood , not saying every key will be this way , but good short cut if it The key plays the game !

If I had to guess on roll pins or springs playing the game which would I choose? Do you feel lucky?

Have same problem now, too! Checked contacts to battery and to underside of circuit board, all good. Checked voltage of battery, good 3.1 VDC

Put in new spare battery anyway, 3 volts also.... fob still not working ( and I only have one!)

Buy 1 or 2 off eBay. Then take them to get reprogrammed. But first, check to make sure the shutter in the ignition switch is not hanging open. This will cause your fob not to work.
