limp home mode
Hello, every one out there. I just traded in my x type sport for an 03 s type r. I'm a family man and love having a daddy car with some guts to it. I have been reading the forum and just joined this morning. The car has a few idiosyncrasies ( lights point low, parking assist doesn't work, cd changer reads no disks and a surge within the first 5 minutes of driving between 30 and 50 mph). But the problem I ran into last night that has me worried is the car went into limp home mode twice last night. It was raining outside and I was coming to a stop, probably below 20 mph and the ABS and traction control dash lights came on, the amber and red dash lights came on and the computer read no parking brake, no DTS and engine fault. As soon as I got to where I was going and turned the car off and back on, they went away. I started to drive to my buddies and with in ten minutes it did it again, same scenario, raining went to stop, then boom limp home mode. After I left to go home the car was fine. It has not done it before and this morning it was fine. Yesterday was the only time I drove it in the rain being I just bought it, so could something gotten wet? Has any one had this issue? Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to include as much info as possible. Thanks to all and I look forward to talking to everyone.

RE: limp home mode
Hi and welcome,
Check to see if you're getting water in the trunk under the spare tire or under the hood. This is a fairly common problem and can be resolved by checking for voids or openings in the seals where water can get in and repairing them. It does sound like something is getting wet especially if it's fine in dry weather.
Hope this helps

RE: limp home mode
Same thing happened to me the first day I owned my car except I went through a car wash! My car shut down four times on I95 coming home from Florida. My problem was water in the throttle position sensor connector. It needed to be blown out and dielectric grease applied. There is also a known problem with the ECM connector getting water init also. Somewhere in your car's history a shield should have been installed to prevent it. On the headlight issue check out my post a little before this one.

That's what I love about forums, having people that have been there done that and willing to share for free... I love it. That's a bunch for your info fellows. I will check all this out. As far a the head lights from what I've read the self leveling is a huge issue in the 03 models, so I'm going to make mine permanently fixed this weekend. I will contact the dealer onn the car fax to see if the shield was installed, if not when can I get it done at? Or can it be done by me if so is it a Jaguar OEM part? Thanks again fellows.

RE: limp home mode
I'm having the same problem but with a X-Type. Spent about 600$ at the dealer and they can't find it. I think it's the instrument cluster, i have a second hand one comming. It's a problem with the CAN network going down. On my CAN network there is multible modules and the trouble codes don't point out what one. (Speedometer, abs module, tcm, ecm, etc.) At the dealer they changed the tcm with a used one and the problem came back. (used one for testing)
What I did while the problem was there was to unplug my abs module to see if the problem is still there and it came back, decide to remove my speedometer check the connectors lost the problem. I greased the plug with dielectric grease.
The problem came back a couple of days after. But some how it's not as bad. I will remove the speedo again and check the ground, i was thinking of installing a second ground wire just to be on the safe side.
Let me know if you find it and i will do the same.

I had the same problem with my 2005 R driving in the rain, and going thru the car wash. For me it was an easy fix. My mechanic sealed some screw holes that hold the fresh air cowling on. (I'm not really sure if it is actually called the fresh air cowiling but my invoice says that) Anyways he explained that on some year models the screw holes are positioned above the throttle position sensor. They are not sealed so water can work thru thescrew threads and dripon the sensor causing it to malfunction. He said Jaguar put out a service bulletin for a patch. Only cost me$135. no problems since.
