Default Looking for an STR?

Have to confess to a bad habit that developed after I bought my STR on eBay just over a year ago. Drives my wife crazy.

I keep checking STR auctions on eBay that have a "Buy-it-Now" option and, if it looks like a nice car, kickstart the process with a bid of about 60% of the Buy-it-Now price. At that price, the reserve is never met, and I don't usually continue bidding. It's low-risk mischief, but that's how I started the bidding process for my own STR!

Did the same thing for the STR below and, of course, was well under $10K and nowhere near the winning bid of $15300. Imagine my surprise when eBay sent this message today:

"You've been given a second chance to buy Jaguar : S-Type 4dr Sdn R 2006 Jaguar S-Type R Supercharged NAVI Warranty Leather 410HP Gray. To purchase this item, just contact the seller at: us.andy.1970.s@gmail.com"

Obviously, there was a problem with the winning bidder and, when this happens, eBay normally approaches the next highest bidder. It's amazing that they are now asking me, but of course I have no interest other than to share this info with the forum. Of course, it may just be a scam!

I'm exactly the same way, I browse all sorts of local and national listings including eBay for STR's for sale, you figure there's always a potential gem to be found for cheap!

If I find an all black leather interior R car for cheap enough, I'll buy it just for the donor interior swap,

I got one those eBay messages once when I was bidding on a car. Instead of replying to the email I went to the dealer because it was local to make sure it wasn't a scam. Sure enough the car was sold and they knew nothing of the email.

I've had ebay second-chance - though not on a car - and bought. Wasn't a scam for me, either time.

Well, I decided to check with the vendor and, just as you found, sprdav, it was a scam, the car was sold and they knew nothing of the email.

So now I'm curious and furious about that security breach.

Hang on... when I got 2nd chances I think I had to login to ebay to take the offer up. I don't think you get sent an email along the lines above so probably you got a fake. Have a close look at the full email (with headers) and you'll probably find it has a Received: line showing it never came from ebay.

Yep, sent a copy of the email to the spoof people at ebay, and they confirmed is was a "phishing" scam, i.e. someone trying to get hold of account information.

I check the Properties of all emails from Paypal and eBay, especially when the message was as unexpected as this was. Saw that the source address was ebay@ebay-4ns.com instead of ebay@ebay.ca. So no harm done this time.

I think I may now be cured of my habit of "mischief bidding".

Nah, it sounds like fun bidding.

So long as you wouldn't mind winning another STR!
