Loud engine knocking noise 4.0 V8
Inhinknthe chains are finally set up right However their is still a squeaking noise. And possibly some valve noise. I'm going to rdmove the serpantine belt and see if the squeaking stops. If it does that's at least one good thing. Not sure about the rest of the noise. At this point it does t look good.
I am trying to chalk this up to a learning experiance. I will see where it takes me

My 3.2 x308 has developed a loud knocking (more ticking really) sound recently. My wife even commented on the sound as I drove by yesterday.
The sound is not present at tickover, only around 2,000 revs only when the engine is fully warm. It can be 5 or 6 miles (country driving) from cold when I first here a slight sound. When I am finishing my 25 mile commute (town driving at this stage) it is quite loud and persistent, again around 2,000 revs on the way up and down.
Seems to come in waves, more on the overrun than when accelerating. I went over a road hump (not at speed) and the sound disappeared for a few seconds.
I have 175,000 miles on the old dear now and last replaced chains an tensioners at about 90,000 (the latest metal body type). Back then the knocking sound was present when the engine was cold and at tickover.
Any ideas? I have had her since 2001 and just don't want to say goodbye :-(
2 months since last service, oil (generic fully synth 5w40) is up to the full mark.
Cheers, Aidan
Postscript: oops, wrong Jaguar model, sorry, will try to find the right place to post.
