Default Misfire issue

Hello. I'm new to Jags, but fairly knowledgeable to working on vehicles. I'm a little stumped on this one however. I've tried checking other posts, but the ones I was able to come across didn't quite contain my exact issue. I have an 07 Jag S type 3.0 that I recently purchased. Test drive went fine. Took for long enough to get to running temp while doing low and high load. No hesitation, no lights, slight burning smell (guy recently replaced both cats), and was very nice overall. Wasn't driven between test drive and purchase (just couple days). He also had put new battery in it. Wasn't much gas, so put enough to get home (drive that took about 55 miles). Drive went fine. Sat couple days. Drove around for some errands and filled tank. Drove fine till after filled up. Started hesitating by time got home (about 5 miles) and started flashing engine light and another yellow light with info saying "restricted performance". I've limited running it to try to diagnose it. OBDII gives 2 codes. One is misfire cylinder 5 (P0305) and other is misfire on start up under 1k rpm (forgot number). I've added "Heet" with injector cleaner in case had moisture from sitting, anti ethanol additive, and octane booster (since calls for 91 or higher octane, but filled with 89 octane). Has yet to run right. Lights and message will go off after erase codes and will stay off, come on when try accelerate, go off while steady speed, not come on when restart, and come on when restart. The only sure thing is that the engine light will come on and the other light, and message, comes and goes. I have tools but no "shop" tools/instruments. Sorry for the long post... Please help!

You can watch live data via obd2 to help narrow it down , (ie. Fuel trims , fuel pressure ect) . But regardless of what the sensors say , I'd start with a new fuel filter .
and check under the coils to see if it has oil or water in the plug wells .

check the coil on cyl 5. Replacements are really cheap. Check for oil or moisture in the spark plug hole

Unfortunately #5 is under the inlet manifold so it's not straightforward and there is a number of "while I'm in there" items you should consider if you need to change the coil.
Why were the cats changed?
Double check the battery and charging system also just to be sure they are in good shape.

Do not operate the vehicle under conditions that cause the MIL to flash as catalyst damage is occurring. Find and fix the misfire(s).

Burning smell is most likely caused by a leaking cam cover gasket allowing oil to drip onto the exhaust manifold.

Wasn't burning oil smell. It was because new cats on it. That's why I said about new cats. My only issue is the misfire/performance issue.

I am having the same issue, including a misfire from #3, and it turns out I need to replace the valve cover gaskets. The mechanic showed me the oil leaking from the driver side of the engine. So... the burning smell you are experiencing is probably not from your new cats, but rather, as another member stated, is probably oil burning, suggesting you need to change your gaskets..

Or, it could be leaking IMT O rings.

So pretty much do a partial tune up (plugs, coil packs, and gaskets)? If so, could somebody tell me what the Ford part is for coil packs? Pretty sure same as Jag but cheaper. What plugs are best to use? Which gaskets are needing changed while I'm doing plugs? Thanks!

Default Missfire

Fill up 91 and you may have no problem after that. I got my S-type VERY and the light came on just like your. Then I started on 91 and had no problem with it. It is ment to run 91 gas. I done more then 30000 on the car and no problems. I also had a note on one of the bills saying to change CO2 sensor. Did not change it and it still going strong.
