Default more front wheel bearing questions

Hi guys. I need to change my front wheel bearings on my 02, and I'm a little confused by some of the terminology in some posts I've read. I *think* when people say they've replaced the front wheel bearing, they mean they've swapped out the entire hub/bearing assembly? Are the bearings a serviceable item (like older cars like my TR6)?, or is the only option a hub swap? More confusing is guys mentioning prices of around $40, but the hubs I've found on ebay are around $300? I understand I'm up for a bit of a battle removing that hub, but once out, can I swap any bearings, or do I chuck it out? I can't seem to find any reference to the procedure in my manual either.

cheers
Ian

I think the hub is easy (and may be cheaper from a dealer than ebay) whereas the bearing needs a press almost no-one has and great care.

Agreed,

Front hub assembly on the S Types.

NOT hard, many things to remove before the 4 bolts for the hub R&R. About 6 beers per side.

I got mine, a while back, from CBC, and I think? $180 each.

Being in Geelong, talk to Doug at JagDaim, he be the man.

Ian,

Just a heads up, JagDaim's lookup system is Vin based, so send Doug the last 6 of your Vin, which will be M*****. That way time will be saved by his not asking for it.

yes. for the front you replace the hub/bearing ASSEMBLY.

For the rear, you cant actually press out the bearings and press in new ones

So. I picked up this unit from ebay, and it seems to be in good nick. I'll just need to transfer my brake baking plate. Problem is, I now discover it's for a diesel car? Does it make a difference? It seems strange they would change a component like this.
The part number is 2W93-3K186-E.

Thanks
