Angry Navigation Screen

I have a 2005 STR. I updated the navigation disc about 2 years ago with an update I got from ioffer link in this forum and it worked perfectly until recently. Now I get the message that the dvd is not a map dvd, or sometimes the roads will not be visible or the icon will not move, I can't store my home location..etc...basically its just totally screwed up. Is this an issue with the copied dvd update or has my dvd reader finally bit the dust? Any thing I should check before buying a new reader? BTW, I have the original dvd from the navigation system but that is the only disc I have. I've read other threads and they were asked about a software cd, that I do not have....Ideas? Thanks...

you could try a normal dvd cleaning disc but i'd remove the unit, strip it and clean it manually.

I find for some reason, that whilst the original nav disc in mine always works. Ones that I create myself seem to last for about 8 weeks, then fail, then I go burn another one and get another 8 weeks or so.... etc

Maybe the laser in the nav unit damages the writeable discs by burning them slightly over time whilst the originals are pressed and so cant be damaged by the laser ?????

Hrmm, interesting thought that, I might experiment with different brands of media and see if any difference in lifespan at all.
