Default New 2002 S Type

Hey guys,

Let me start out by saying that I am brand new to both Jaguars and this forum (I have posted in the new member area). Last week I bought a 2002 4.0 S Type (I probably paid too much for it), thing is the car only has 9,800 miles on it! I love the car, it is the same condition as when it came off the showroom floor (car been garage kept every day, driven only on weekends). I've looked through some of the threads and it seems this vehicle has items that will need to be addressed. I am really looking for recommendations on what areas are most critical and what I should do first. Are there things I can do to prevent some of the issues people have with these cars? Any advise would be great! I will start by changing the tires and likely the belts, hoses, etc. Thanks in advance for the help.

Wow!

Read up on tensioners.

Wait till you're able then grab JTIS and JEPC.

Get a cheap OBD tool - see General Tech forum.

Welcome! It's not what you paid for it that matters, it's how you feel about it when you drive it. If you love it then it was money well spent!

Ditto to Cat. A 2002 with only 9500 miles? She must be amazing...frozen in time.

Default Locking Lug Nut

Quick question. The other day I went to remove my locking lug nuts and replace them with regular nuts (I've always hated the locking nuts and have removed them from all of my vehicles). When I put the lug key on and went to loosen it with the wrench supplied in the trunk I found the supplied lug wrench would not fit! I verified the lug key and standard nuts were two different sizes (the key being one size larger). Off the top of my head I don't remember the size. Is this normal or am I missing something? Would not have made for a good experience if I was not in front of my garage!

Well if the lug nuts have not been replaced yet please do it NOW!! The lug nuts have a crappy crimped cover that distorts until you can't remove them. Then you get stuck trying to change a tire but can't remove the lug nuts. Several people have had shops cut them off with damage to the wheel.

Do a little searching as the replacements are well documented and they will fix the problem.

Since you lug wrench does not fit they may have been replaced already. But look at them to make sure they are solid one piece lug nuts.

I would throw away the locking lug nuts.

I bought a new set of lug nuts on Ebay. Just make sure you buy the ones for mag wheels if you have stock rims. I'm getting ready to buy another set when I replace the winter tires. They are cheap but tend to rust quickly.

Based on your mileage , keep up with oil changes and fluids. And around the 50'000 mile think about changing out the things some of the others have recomended.

Thanks Chucky, that's exactly the number I was looking for! I figured it was between 40K and 65K. Thanks again.
