New cat owner
Thanks to all for your comments. I'm still not home free. I would like to keep
this strand open a little longer. Please remember it is not the "chime" sound it is a "ding", "ding", "ding", when I open a door, put the key in the ignition, shut the car down and pull the key out of the ignition...more ding, ding, dings. Every once in awhile it doesn't ding. I cannot tell what is going on or what I have done different. Is aggravating. All have given me great advice. So far I have done everything you have suggested.

I sympathize with U 100% Kandok. Why not find the damned thing and disconnect it? I'm sure it doesn't contravene any laws and you will have already established there's no fault. Sometimes you're driven to it by sheer aggravation. There are certain people I would love to 'disconnect', but life never gets that good.

p.s. Am I a grumpy old man? Won't even give U one guess!

I have discovered that the J Shifter in park is not going all the way to the right. When I gently assist it to that position the dinging goes off. Could it be the two little 8mm bolts that are up next to the transmission? I have been reading about servicing this cat and one post said that this is something to check when changing the oil. Can anyone confirm this could be the problem?

You are right. It is the J shifter in park. It appears that some spring is not pushing the shifter far enough to the right. By assisting the shifter with my finger the dinging stops.
Any further thoughts?

Thanks for all the comments, all very thoughtful. Found the problem with the "dinging". The spring on the "J" shifter needed to be tightened to allow the gear shift to fully rest in the "P" (park) position. It did not have enough tension to make this happen. The "Cat" thought that it was not in park and was giving me a warning sound. Found the problem when cleaning the dash and accidently hitting the caution triangle button and it started the dinging. Once again accidently hit the gear shift and it stopped. Maybe there's a position at Scotland Yard for me...what an unusual occurrence.
