New owner of 2001 Jaguar S-Type...need a little help please!!!
IMT O rings what is IMT abbreviation of?
Burning oil smell inside cabin points to the IMT O-Rings. The '01's differ slightly from the '05's (location wise) which I have had to replace (along with many other members here).
They are located on the intake manifold. The O-Rings allow oil to drip onto the engine causing the burnt oil smell. Along those lines excess oil is also being burnt and sent through the O2 sensors and cats.
Hope this helps.
BTW, I would start by replacing the O-Rings, cheap and easy! Get a JTIS on ebay or www.alldatadiy.com subscribtion to aid in replacement.

It sounds like it is in limp mode. About the 3rd thread down under S-Type heading you can download the manual. It explains the limp mode. Before deciding to do anything drastic like change out or rebuild the trany, you may want to take it to someone with the proper diagnostic tools and expertice. In limp mode, everything is very sluggish and the speed is limited to about 20. It's meant to allow you to get off the road only. Sometimes you can turn it off and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then start it up and it may clear the limp mode temporarily. This way you may be able to get to somewhere safe.
Very nice looking S-Type. Best of luck. By the way, how good of a friend is he?
