Default New with problems! :( From DSC to few more!

Hello Fellow Jag Drivers,

I have an issue with my Jaguar S-Type 2004 2.5L.

When I drive the ABS light comes on and says "DSC NOT AVAILABLE" which comes and goes so I then decided to take the car to get put on a computer to find out the issue and I found the following codes...

Under Engine:
P1260 - SECURITY INPUT
P1582 - FLIGHT RECORDER DATA IS STORED
P0174 - SYSTEM TOO LEAN BANK 2

Under Transmission:
P0706 - TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE

Under Brakes:
C17737 - VACCUM PRESSURE CIRCUIT FAILURE

After reading all of these I have become worried that I have spent a lot of money on a car that is going to die on me, the only this is the car seems to drive nicely, it seems so smooth like there is not a problem in the world.

Does anyone know what could be causing these faults to appear?

Kind Regards,
Nino Grimace

You've got separate faults. They don't sound too tough to fix.

Ignore the first 2 for now.

I'd fix the ABS very urgently as your car is unsafe and would fail MoT. Find an indy to fix it as you don't sound the DIY type.

Most 10+ yr old cars can be costly unless you DIY. A jag is not at the cheap end of things, especially if you don't DIY....

Sorry I am in hospital right now, my wife is in labour.

I was really worried about the transmission fault mostly as I know automatics are expensive. I would DIY but I am new to jag and dont know anything about the car yet. I will have to get more familiar with things before doing so.

Once I am out the hospital I will take it to a Indy and see what they say.

Do you know what the actual issues are by any chance?

I have just got back from the garage and none of the codes came back apart from...

C17777 - VACCUM PRESSURE CIRCUIT FAILURE
P1582 - FLIGHT RECORDER DATA IS STORED

Hopefully someone knows how I can find out what exactly is wrong with the ABS fault.

Kind Regards,
NinoGrimace

Just take to an indy or failing that dealer.

Your C code is invalid btw.

I'd guess your mechanic does not have a tool that can read ABS codes. Most don't. Is the DSC warning gone now?

Hi mikey,

No it hasn't gone, the DSC not available warning comes and goes. I am worried it will go into limp mode on me.

Due to my lady having an emergency c section I don't want to leave her at home alone as she is in pain.

Is there anything I can do to analyse what is the cause of the warning?

Kind Regards,
NinoGrimace

Never mind the stupid car for now. Look after your wife.

JagV8 had the best suggestion- take the car to a dealer or indy that can read the codes properly. If it is only the DSC and nothing else, the car is not unsafe to drive. Just remember that the system is not available and that you're the one controlling the car and not a computer.

Strangely no one has mentioned the battery, get it checked as a failing battery can show odd faults.

Thank you for the responses, I will start by getting the battery checked and the codes checked properly by a dealer or indy as suggested.

I will let you know how that goes once I get the chance.

So I was on the way to the doctors today and the engine light came on stating "performance restricted", I am going to a Indy tomorrow to see what the issue actually is. I just hope it isn't my transmission.

So I have taken it to an indy and they have decided to smoke test the car due to an air leak and it seems to be coming from a crack in the throttle body.

I don't know if this would give me the DSC NOT AVAILABLE error but I guess it could be part of the issue as the abs error states "C17777 - VACUUM PRESSURE CIRCUIT FAILURE"

The engine error is "P0174 - SYSTEM TOO LEAN BANK" 2 so I assume this should fix that as that is the only area where there is a air leak.

Does anyone know if there are any other issues that could be causing the ABS error?

Get them to check the vacuum line to the brake booster.
