Default New S type owner :)

Hello all, big time car guy who loves all types of cars but happens to be a huge BMW enthusiast.

To make a long story short, I am having a Jag dropped off to my House in the next day or so, a 2000 S-Type 3.0, not sure what i am going to even do with it yet, perhaps step one would be to convince my Fiancee to love it and in turn for us to keep it...

I had a chance to drive, it, quite impressed with it, although I am not a huge fan of the wood found in the interior. It needs a tune up which is getting as we speak, coils, plugs, and hopefully I can get my hands on it tomorrow.

Welcome Bmwm5, congrat on the new to you S Type.

Hey if it is not to late, have the mechanic change out a rubber elbow under the LOWER intake!!! He has to remove the intake any how to change plugs, another 4 bolts and the lower intake comes off revealing the rubber elbow that is a known problem!!!!

I would hate to see all that work and then the elbow goes.

Heres a link to what I am typing about: http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepair2...VacuumLeak.htm

Hmm, thanks for the advice but I believe it is too late now .

Apparently the car is back to working 100 % but is suffering from a lumpy/hunting idle.. they are going to double check that and get back to me to tell me what's up.

540i/6 eh? Those are VERY nice cars.
I've owned quite a few BMW's and Volvo's and Land/Range Rovers.

Never in a million years have I thought I would ever own a Jag, but this one kinda fell into my lap.

Biggest issue now is how do I convince my fiance who is to be driving it that she wants it? She is content with her 98 Volvo she has been driving for the last while and I am trying to tell her to just step up to the sweet S type.

I've been doing a lot of reading and I am growing a likeing to the S types and it seems the 3.0 is a bit more reliable but still punchy and nice to drive around.

This one seems to ride quite nice, much stiffer and more responsive than another Stype (2003 with 16's) that I drove. I don't think it has the sport Package though. just the wheels.

Here are a few shitty cell pics, it had been in a dark building for quite a few months.

Combined with the IMT O rings?

bmw, I don't know how much you have read yet but basically on the preface lift 3.0 S Types the vacuum lines are known to crack usually in places where you cannot see, the elbow goes as stated and the Imt O rings start to leak, all part of the vacuum system.

I would start there.

Along with the other items you have mentioned.

I agree with you, I never thought I would get a Jag esp after the bimmer. I was looking to upgrade to an m5 when I came across the STRs. They aren't as raw and racey like the m5, but something about the 4.2 s/c and interior really did it for me.

i had an 2003 540iA M sport, def nice and the looks are classic but when i got my STR the british feel and exclusivity sold me on it. plus it goes so fast so easily and gets good MPG still

Hey fellas thanks for the info.
The car seems to be running great, we just picked it up. Nothing further, other than the tune up was needed at the moment, probably it had been sitting for a long time. Needed to be driven. Smooth as butter now...

My plan is to detail it and black out all the chrome...then take it from there... Will post an updated shot soon.

As far as BMW's go, no other car can sustain my driving ( I am way too hard on cars). The feel and look of a BMW make my heart flutter LOL.

Impressions?
This car is smoooth!! It rides like a cloud, reminds me of my 2002 Range Rover, but feels even smoother, but not boat like.

How difficult is it to remove the wood panelling on the dashboard and around the shifter?

Nice car! The nice thing on the Jag is the double wishbone vs the bimmer's strut setup. I know with the e39s there was very little you could do with lowering due to the small springs that were installed from the factory unless you went with coilovers. I have my STR lowered with H&R springs and it still isn't as harsh over bumps as my e39.
