ODB codes
Hi, I have a Jaguar S type 3,0. Everything started with the ODB code P0160 "02 cesor cicuit, no activity detected bank 2 sensor 2". I changed all lambda sonds on both cylinder banks, just in case.
Now there is another OBD code thats showing up: P0174 "system to lean bank 2". I have been looking for vacuum leaks, but are inable to find any. The car has a normal idle but as soon as I accelerate it hacks, but it donīt seemes to missfire.
Is there anyone that have an idea where to continue to search after the problem?

Look at fuel trims, engine hot, parked, at idle and again at about 2500rpm. If the trims go from quite big to much smaller you have a leak. If not, follow the rest of JTIS / codes PDF for P0174 (you may have something such as damaged cat conv).
Iīve done a reboot by disconnect the battery for some hours after erased the code with my OBD2 reader. My wife used the car for going to work, (about 40km), and no sign of any errors, like Engine lamp and the orange lamp. When starting the car for going home, both lamps lit. When she arrived I took the car erased the code and drove about 10km and I accelerated both with and without kick down, turned of the car and started it without any problems. It feels strange because the car runs as there is nothing wrong with it, except for the warning lights. Right now Iīm charging the battery, (even if it seems ok).
OBD codes are defined to take 1 or 2 or more cycles to flag. You have a 2-trip code. You're seeing exactly what OBD II is defined by laws to do.
Now it's time to move on from the law to fixing it...

It seems that the problem has disappeared by itself. I rather believe my own actions helpt, "Norwegian reset", cleaning fuses and topping up the battery. Otherwise I have to blame the humid climate during the last weeks.
The error code P0174 have appeard again. Iīve checked for vacuum leaks and are unable to find any. Idling is ok and no rpm variations. I really suspect an electrical failure as a poor connection somewhere. Working with electrical systems on cars is something really I hate, (except for 2CV:s that have four glass fuses only). Is there anyone that have experienced a similar scenario?
Iīm afraid of unravel the thread from the wrong direction, because of the unnecessary cost it would involve.

The P0174 code is for bank #2 and the lack of P0171 bank 1 leads me to believe it could be a fuel issue or an o2 sensor but it would be hard to identify without LTFT readings. I would first add BG44K to the fuel and see if the code clears.

Many thankīs Gus, Iīll follow your advise and start trying "the easy fix". Will also check up the connections for the lambda sonds, (it could be some error when they where changed).
The problem is finally solved! It was an electrical issue, the cable from one of the O2 sensors on the left cylinder bank was broken. "A quick fix" so to speak and after rebooting the PLC in the car, the error code disappeared. So the gist of this story is to look for all simple things that seemes could be the cause of the error. Unfortunately I did not do that, but started with changing one of the O2 sensors on the left cylinder bank since the error code was P0160. After changing this sensor the engine lamp and the code started to appear in an intermittently way. I decided to change the second O2 sensor on the left cylinder bank, but the result where the same. When changing oil and filter in the gearbox I also changed both O2 sensors on the right cylinder bank. After this change of sensors, a new error code turned up: P0174 indicating that the mixture of the left cylinder bank was lean, and tha car went in "limp mode". Naturally this got me in to an electrical failure as a broken cable, since Iīve been reading a lot of technical information on this forum. Itīs funny when youīve solved a problem, with all the hindsight that appears. Thanks for all help.
