Default oil pressure light

I have a 03 s-type 3.0 that the oil light started comming on. It comes on when the engine is idling or below 1000 rpm. There is no metal in the oil and I just changed the oil. I cut the oil filter open and didn't see anything in there either. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Is it just the sensor going out or what? The engine seems to be working ok, no noises or knocking. Makes me nervous sitting at a light with the oil light on. Thank for any help and keep up all the good work on the forum.

Silly question but has to be asked: is the oil at the right level on the dipstick?

Was all OK before you changed the oil?

What oil and filter did you use?

If OE ones, you may want to replace the sensor to check it's not faulty and if that doesn't fix it then serious investigation is needed urgently. I do not recall anyone reporting this before!

It started before the oil change but after I did the IMT o-rings and valve cover gaskets. It started all the sudden. Was working great one day the next the light was coming on. Using valvoline syn oil and a K&N oil filter. Yes the oil is full.lol.

If it were mine I'd change the sensor and also put on a Jag oil filter.
I'd be using 5W30 oil in case you're not, but I can't see it being that.
As the oil's new(ish) I'd filter it (and check the filter) and put it back in.

In two similar situations in the distant past with other (non-Jaguar) vehicles, the problem both times was caused by a failed oil pressure sending unit. Cheap and easy fix with those cars because you could get to the sending units very easily and they just screw in and out on the engine block. With Jaguar, who knows....

I think that I'm having the same problem with my car, who knows where I can find the sending unit I've looked all around the engine with no luck. Thanks for the info

My 05 3.0L Jag had the same problem and it got resolved by changing the sensor.

Thanks, I'm getting this symptom on my 03 3.0l s-type as well. I talked to my mechanic, and I'm planning to change the Oil Pressure Sender / Switch. Hope this resolves my problem as well.

You might consider trying 0W-40 Mobil 1. A little thicker. It's one of the Jaguar recommended alternatives for my car and I've been using it with success.

I looked it up on All Data and it shows the sending unit above where the oil filter housing is located I'm ordering a new one for my 03 jag s 3.0 only 6.00 from Advanced after shop discount.
