Default One of Those Days

Well - my S Type left the house this morning on the back of a flatbed. Sunday, I went to back her out of my garage, and, quickly noticed I was leaving a trail of coolant on the driveway. Near as I can tell, looked like her Dual Climate Control Valve died. I called the dealer this morning, and, they advised me to call the Jag toll free, and, get her towed in - since she's still under warranty. An hour after I called, the flatbed arrived, and, off she went. Jag even called me back to make sure the car got picked up OK. Guess I'll get the verdict tomorrow from my dealer.

Zogg:

She's a 2006 VDP - I bought it as a Select edition vehicle with the 100K warranty. She's got 71K miles on her now.

Oldengineer, your car seems to be right in the range from a mileage standpoint for a typical DCCV failure. Hope that's all it is. Keep us posted....

The dealer called me today. The car's all fixed - the DCCV had failed, and, the warranty covered it 100%.

Great to see it's fixed and nothing major...

Watch for a coolant light over the next week or two. There may be an air pocket or two in the system. It will purge itself and the coolant light may come on. A quick top off of the reservoir will fix er up.

My dealer offered to top it off for $0, I felt it was better to just get a gallon and keep it on hand... Only had to add a little bit. The coolant level sensor is real sensitive to even the smallest drop in level.

Well I’m sorry for your loss, but happy, really happy for you that it all worked out in your best interest in the long run.. I have just under 150k miles on my S and I still (knock on wood) have not had to replace that particular part and I’m sorry but it sounds expensive, even for a jag part.. hahahaa..

Thanks for the advice - I'll keep an eye on the coolant level.

Not to mention - its probably a pain to get to and change out. Glad I didn't have to get out the wrenches this time.

Oldengineer - I recognize the handle from other forums and remember getting lots of good advice from you on my cat: 2003 STR with about l20k km's on her. New tires, light repairs, coolant overflow tank replacement, brake pads, only so far. She's really a nice pet, somewhat out of sorts at times, very expensive and unpredictable but worth every extra wrinkle she causes, worth every penny she costs.
Right now she's sending out a "DSC not available" and a "ABS Fault" signal and cruise control is not working. Do you have any suggestions? No, I'm not selling her till she totally disintegrates before my eyes - that should take some time. Every once in a while she signals "restricted performance" but shutting her down and waiting a few seconds before restarting seems to clear that one up.
Does this sound like I really need to have a Jag mechanic move in with me? Or, maybe I should move closer to the Jag shop?

EW. I have 73,000 on my 2003. I may be on borrowed time. Where is the DCCV located anyway?

GR8Cat:

I'm far from an expert, but, from what I've read on these forums - have your battery checked. Apparently, when the battery gets weak, it causes all kinds of weird problems like this. I'm glad you jumped on this forum - the advice these guys can give you is priceless.

FloridaJag:

My car has the 4.2 in it. The DCCV is located on the back side of the radiator down low on the right (passenger) side just in front of the engine and below the overflow tank.

I think that's where I've been leaking some coolant. I see traces of it. I am going to fix this problem before it becomes an issue on the freeways. I guess I know what I am going to be doing soon.
