P0741 code transmission fault
I had a 'transmission fault' warning while on the highway last night ( at about 120kph) and then the check engine light came on. The transmission warning went off after I stopped and restarted but engine light stayed on. Purchased a OBD2 code reader -P0741 came up.
I had the transmission rebuilt (inc. new torque converter) a year and a half ago but it was never quite perfect - a jumpy sift from 1-2 and 2-3 it was violent before rebuild between 1-2 the transmission shop could not reprogramm properly and the dealer tried about a year later when I had it in.
Could this lack of proper reflashing of ECM/TCM cause both the shift problem and now the P0741 problems?

It's usually the 5/6 shift which causes the P0741 initially as the clutch surface is coming apart. You can get it rebuilt but ya need to find someone who is familiar with the 6hp26 tranny and especially if it's an STR as they use different surfaces than standard.
Make sure that whoever does the work uses a Jaguar front seal on the transmission and not the generic 6hp26 seal. The generic will leak.
This advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it...
Thanks for the reply- transmission shop believes it is the solenoid stuck open and are removing the pan next week to investigate- I' m just going to search the forum for solenoid issues-thanks Paul
The TQ is a known problem but the solenoids are not. If you paid for TQ with the rebuild I think they will need to get you a new one.
Was it new or did they put a rebuilt unit in?
Any chance that they maybe did not replace the TQ but said they did?
From your description I sure hope it's still in warranty!!
Be careful about solenoids because that was a problem with the early Ford 5 speed transmission used in the 1999-2002 cars. Not a problem with the 6 speed ZF. They have all their very own problems!

It was a new TQ, I have no reason to believe otherwise but I did read in another post that it should have a Jaguar sourced small o ring as the generics won't last- I doubt mine was from the dealer so...I kind of hope it's the solenoids or wiring. The transmission is no worse than before this happened- it sifts through all gears but can be a bit jumpy between 1-2 and 2-3 just as it has always been-seems to change ever time I drive it but I could be imaging it at this point!!
Just thought I would update my own post with fresh info- originally I posted with a P0741 code and the transmission shop looked at it today and replaced a solenoid- seems to be working fine, with no codes or warnings- i'll have a chance to get it out on the highway this weekend and really check it out!

Unfortunately the same problems back after a couple of days of (aggressive) city driving- P0741 so back to the transmission shop monday- I have a feeling they are over there heads, without access to Jaguar diagnostic equipment but we will see.
Thanks for the update.
As I said the ZF is not known for solenoid problems so that was suspicious from the start.
But your problems don't seem to be one of the common ones either?? I hope you can get it fixed and let the rest of us know what is was?

Final (I hope!!) resolution with new torque converter- transmission shop covered the labour (they did original rebuild 2yrs ago) I just picked it up in rush hour so not much driving time but seems good-thanks to all who helped.

They spotted lots of exhaust rot so on to my next project!!

Good news on the TC!
On the exhaust, that's unusual. I understand it's a special passivated metal so that it lasts. You'll see how rare this is if you try Search to find others who've had the problem.
