Unhappy Parking Brake Lever will not engage

Hello All,

I did a search on this and found one thread that was similar, but there was not enough description in it for me to try and do it myself. I have an 02 S-Type and when i try to engage the emergency brake by pushing the button and pulling it up, the lever will not stay up, it comes right back down and the parking brake will not engage. I am assuming there is something broken or loose which make it not able to catch, but I can't find much on the site to help walk me through how to fix it.

Any ideas?

If the internals are broken or missing (latch that catches and locks onto the emergency brake gear) best bet is to obtain a replacement used.

I have searched and searched for some type of diagram or instructions because I am experiencing the same type of problem.

The kind mentioned is a typical kind of manual handbrake. There must be dozens or hundreds of diagrams of those across the net / in Haynes manuals / etc.
