please help with this STR an its EPB issue
so long story short, the guy who i bought this car from already knew about the problem but didn't want to invest money in it, now i knew what i was getting my self into when he stated that the abs light was on, i figured "ahhh must b a sensor" nothing big, especially since the e- brake works just fine, now I've done a bit of research in this forum, but no one has the exact problem that I'm having, so to diagnose this problem, i went under the car, found a leaking brake hose, fixed that, i removed the battery cable to reset, thinking this would fix the abs light, as i started the car, first thing that pop up was the "engage parking brake" i did so but would stay on unless i hold the e-brake button up, now as soon as i stepped on the brake pedal, boooom abs light, parking brake failure got triggered again..
somebody please guide me in the right direction, I've seem that some members did the EPB motor, but they explain that their e-brake wasn't working at all, but mines works fine unless I'm mistaken..

[QUOTE=eden_x_type;1518626]no i did not, how do i recalibrate the EPB system? please, and thank you mikey
Hi Mickey,
This is the method that I used. I hope this will help you too
David
S-TYPE VIN Range: M45255-N91220
XF VIN Range: R00001 Onwards
XK Range VIN Range: B00001 Onwards
XJ Range VIN Range: G00001-H30057
XJ Range VIN Range: V00001 Onwards
After completing any mechanical service work on the Park brake actuator, Park brake cables or rear brake calipers
through which the Park brake operates (including brake pad replacement), the Park brake must be re-calibrated to the
procedure in this bulletin. Failure to do this may result in incorrect operation of the Park brake, with warning lamps
illuminating and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) C1801-00 or C1802-00 being stored.
1. Reset the EPB module as detailed below
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds (see TOPIx
Workshop Manual, section 414-01).
c. Re-connect the battery.
2. Start the engine.
3. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five times.
4. Confirm that the message 'NOT CALIBRATED' or 'APPLY FOOT
AND PARK BRAKE' is displayed on the instrument cluster
message center. This indicates that the parking brake is in
calibration mode.
5. Lightly press the footbrake pedal.
6. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Release the footbrake.
9. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the
instrument pack and that the 'NOT CALIBRATED' message is no
longer displayed in the message center.
10. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present

i tried doing this procedure, and it failed to do so, when i restart the car, the "apply brake" message shows, then when i proceed to apply the footbrake, the abs light pop up and the "park brake fault" message shows instead and it stays on, also when i apply the parking brake switch, it engages but it doesn't disengage, so I'm lost here

codes p0784 theres a thread on here i was reding up on, and its very helpful, now for the solution, so i know this guy who's a trannsmission genius, and told me that the whole solenoid pack needed to be changed and the valve body as well. now I'm not familiar with the pricing of transmission parts, but if anyone on here is more familiar with these can you give me an estate of how much i would be looking at? or whats a reasonable price for a valve body repair and a shift solenoid pack?

sorry everybody, i forgot to mentioned that the pcm didn't give me any abs trouble codes, but it did however give me these codes, p1582, p0784, p1000, no abs light, one of my good trusted mechanic friends told me that since the e brake worked just fine, that what could be causing the problem would be the e-parking brake cables that travel from each of the rear calipers to the center of the differential, he told me that this was common on s-types, so ima have to get under the jag maybe this weekend coming up, but any suggestions is it common for those brake cables to brake in the s-type?

Please update your signature then. It shows an X-type w/manual trans.

Sorry about that! Wrong car!
The cables are most likely not the problem. Do you live in an area where salt is used in the winter? If so then yes I would inspect the cables.
We know the S Type far better than a local mechanic. The number one problem with the EPB is low battery voltage putting the module into re-calibrate mode.
The motor, module and cables are far down the list of problems. Again most problems with the EPB are NOT problems with the EPB! I know that sounds strange but the EPB seems to be one of the first things affected when the battery starts to go.
Start there first and make sure you have eliminated the battery as a cause!
No point in spending money on anything until you have done this FIRST.
